Secondary-growth is not a habitat option for the Spotted Owl. Although great swathes of BC's mainland Great Bear temperate rainforest have been protected--Gordon Campbell's backwards government refused to adopt recommendations to protect the owl when it was discovered banning logging in Spotted Owl habitat would be necessary. This WAS a violation of the BC endangered species act, which requires the government to proect endangered species. The Sierra Legal Defence Fund is mounting a last-ditch legal challenge, and the federal government is being pressured to adopt the provincial recommendations. What can you do? E-mail the federal government and ask them to force the province of B.C. to protect the owl, respect the federal court decision or table new federal legislation should the federal court challenge fail.
