Few people anywhere have suffered more or longer than the beleaguered Palestinians. For nearly four decades they've lived under a harsh and unending Israeli occupation of their land. They've endured a continued assault to seize it, a loss of their personal and economic rights and a denial of any chance for justice or their very humanity. These courageous people remain isolated in their own land with little support from the outside. Yet it's never broken their spirit as they continue their heroic efforts to survive and struggle to gain their freedom.

Unless Israel indiscriminately targets civilians in the same manner as Palestinian suicide bombers and Kassam rockets, the Palestinians will never have to feel the weight of the world's fourth most powerful military (where does he come up with this stuff??? So he's ranking Israel after the US, Russia and China and before the UK, France, North Korea, etc...?). Until Israel treats their own moderate voices the same way moderate Palestinians are treated (they are termed collaborators and are killed by the Palestinians), then we will continue to be barraged by these "sympathetic" voices like Lendman. <br />
<br />
I have never seen an article so peppered with inaccuracies and purposeful ommissions. Somehow the entire subject of suicide bombings is overlooked. All the innocent civilians terrorized on buses, restaurants and weddings is completely breezed by. He then goes on to state that Hamas "wanted negotiations and was willing to recognize Israel as a legitimate state". I call BS. Hamas steadfastly declined to recognize Israel and even reiterated their charter when some of the wording in their latest note to Israel (begging for money) seemed to indirectly imply that recognition. <br />
<br />
Speaking of the 1988 Hamas founding charter, let's look at some of the statements that are included therein:<br />
<br />
“Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” <br />
<br />
“There is no solution for the Palestinian question, except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time ...” <br />
<br />
“Our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious ... (Hamas) is but one squadron that should be supported ... from this vast Arab and Islamic world, until the enemy is vanquished and Allah’s victory is realized.” <br />
<br />
Ah yes. The voice of the courageous poor victims of Israel's occupation. Lendman also dismisses the Gaza withdrawal as a facade. He calls it a "staged media event was little more than the resettlement of Gaza's Jewish residents to new homes in Israel proper". So if you move out of Gaza it's not a real withdrawal because they were moved on to "other seized Palestinian land". So in Lendman's estimation, there is no withdrawal until every Jew is out of Israel and the Palestinians have their "homeland" back. Hmmm... well in that case the First Nations should be kicking our butts back to Europe for the same reasons. Fat chance on both counts. <br />
<br />
Lendman's biggest lament is the lack of foreign support for the Palestinians. An for once I agree with him. When Hamas was elected, and since they were already listed as a terrorist organization, many Western nations cut the billions in aid money that was being funneled through the Palestinian Authority because it was feared that those funds would go to terrorist operations. A legitimate fear, especially since Hamas has seemed to be unwilling to relent on their daily rocket attacks on Israel. The only reason they have been unable to strike effectively with suicide bombers is the massive fence now encircling Israel. However, when this aid money ceased, the Arab nations stood up as one and said they would make up the difference. Saudi Arabia and Kwait said they would send almost $100 million to Palestine. <br />

<br />
Well the money never showed up. Nobody in the Palestine Authority has been paid since March (except Hamas fighters - that's congecture on my part). It seems that to the Islamic brotherhood of nations, making grandiose statements about Palestine are great PR, but actually helping their downtrodden bretheren isn't exactly on the top of the list. Where is the foreign support for the poor, courageous Palestinians? I guess for the Arabs, Palestine makes for a better rallying cry and any attempts to make life better would denigrate that cause. <br />
<br />
Nobody gives more money to the Palestinians than Israel. Second on that list is the US. Funny how the two biggest benefactors in Palestine are the most hated. Maybe Lendman should look into that. But I'd hate for truth to get in the way of his ideology.
How do you know how moderate Palistinians are treated by their fellow Palistinians? What does this have to do with how Israel treats its moderate citizens?
How do we know who committed the many suicide bombings attributed to the Palistinians? Did we have an investigation? Who benefited?
Seems like Israel always ends up gaining more territory and recieving sympathy from other nations who would have been condemning Israel prior to the suicide bomber detonation. How strange. What a coincidence.
If you want to talk about the Hamas constitution then I suppose we should discuss the protocols of the elders of Zion too, eh? Want to go there Pal?
Which western nations donated billions of dollars to the Palistinians? Got a link or two for that little gem?
What the First Nations should do with us is not relevant to what is going on in Palistine/Israel except that both are examples of a complete abrogation of civilized behavior by the invading aggressors.
Got a link to back up your claim that the US and Israel are or were the major donators of funds to the Palistinians?

<br />
"the Palestinian Authority had received about $1 billion in aid yearly from Western countries."<br />
<br />
"Israel has also stopped its monthly transfer of about $55 million per month"<br />
<br />
Or this one:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/45198.pdf">http://fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/45198.pdf</a><br />
<br />
"US aid has averaged $85 million per year since 1993"<br />
<br />
Last year, the largest donor was the EU with $606 million, the US second at $400 million. Israel funds the PA but does not give "donations" - to the tune of more than $660 million a year. So, billions provided to the Palestinians by the people they hate. <br />
<br />
I say cut them off completely and let the Arabs provide for them. Put their money where their mouths are. Since they won't, we'll have peace in Palestine in about 3 months when the food runs out.
