Cancellation Of Counterspin?

Posted on Monday, April 12 at 10:43 by FreeCanada
Counterspin. The great bastion of public debate and conscience in Canada is being taken off the air. I guess too many Americans complained to our government that the CBC was being to 'un-partiotic' (to America obviously). A show should not be pulled from the air because it raises the concerns that many Canadians have. This, and other forms of media control are bringing the end of democracy as we know it. It is news like this that gets me truly angry.

Nonsense! Counterspin was and still is one of the greatest investigative media presentations still alive in North America.

Question though - where does the asumption come from that 'americans' are behind it? there are plenty of CBC haters right here in Canada. they are called the Conservative Party.

Anon is right. I guess all right wings are CBC haters.

That is because facts and truth undermine their ideology. When the light hits the cockroaches, they scurry.

That's a self induced fallicy. There's a term for it, just can't remember the old philosophy course.<p> It goes like this, X is not Y ie: they are two different conditions. You set X as true, therefore Y must be false, when Y could be equally true as X. Hence, the fallicy.<p> You assume because the CBC is currently unraveling Liberal corruption, that 'the right' doesn't like the CBC, when instead it's more likely that us 'right' thinkers just hate the Liberal corruption. We don't shoot the messenger.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />

    Dr. Caleb,

I think it has less to do with hating the liberals. It has more to do with these right wingers hating public corporations. The conservatives want to privatize the CBC. That's what its all about.

Since they want to privatize everything else as well. They don't hate health care, water or the CBC. They just have this idea to privatize everything.

It's about privatization and it's about control. Business owns so much media already. The CBC is the only 'mainstream' kind of news left, if it gets rid of it's public debate shows there is no voice left (well a lot less of one at least. I won't go silent :) for regular Canadians. That is my fear, we are being shut up.

    FreeCanada,

Did you get a response from CBC with regards to why the show is being cancelled? Everytime I email CBC they NEVER answer. If I email a show directly they will answer but the in-general CBC does not. I wanted to know who is responsible for our programming? Maybe they need cancelling rather than our favourite shows.

If they ever succeed in privatizing the CBC. Vive Le Canada can start a donation fund to buy the name (CBC)Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Create a website and be a news source for Canadians over the internet. :-)

But Kevin - that's my point! No one has stated *why* these things are being cancelled, so it's left up to people as to guess why. Some assume the worst (ie: the right wing American lackey hordes are trying to muzzel us with the black helicopters flown by the illumanati . . .) when the answer may be simply - Not enough people watch it.<p> As someone said - 'never attribute to malice what can be more easily explained by stupidity'. :)<p><p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />

    Doc ;-)

That's true, it may just be not enough people watch it. I wonder how we can find out for sure. Maybe its lack of funds to keep all the shows going.

If disclosure and counterspin is going off air. I guess we will have to all start watching Fith Estate. This is another excellent show.

The Crappy Bromide Corporation gets close to one-thousand-million dollars annually. That money could be better spent elsewhere, especially when we already have national broadcasters and newspapers. Sell it to the viewers, if they really like it they can pony up the cash.

Now I'm not for privatization but Don Cherry getting paid 700,000 doesn't go well with average taxpayers.
