"Canada's new defence chief wants to revamp the command structure of the Canadian Forces under a new "CanadaCom" banner that unites the army, navy and air force under leaner, more focused leadership similar to the U.S. military's approach."

Just the fact that it is 'similar' to the U.S. approach pretty much assures it has no chance. I think the preferred method is to figure out what the american position is, on anything, and come out against it and take the opposite position.

Its a good idea, right now the Canuck military is far too top heavy. Time to retire some of the old guard and replace them with actual soldiers, (you know, the ones with guns)

I wholly agree anon. Too many chiefs, not enough indians.

C`mon, Darvin, we don`t oppose everything you guys do. It`s just that you guys haven`t had any good ideas lately.

Are you honestly saying that Canadian nationalism isn't at least a little bit about being contrarian with regard to American ideas, principles, values and culture? Why do nationalists always use "American" as an adjective when they want to discredit an idea or policy?

Face it, Canadian nationalism isn't about being for something. It's about what you're against. Hell, just read the spewings of Mathews and Dart on this site if you have any doubt about that.

I don't know about that, but the Japanese have recently reorganized their armed forces around the American model. They don't seem to have any qualms about moderizing even if they have to borrow some ideas (horrors!) from the Americans.

Of course they have the Chinese to worry about, all we need to defend against are those expansion-minded Danes. Hope we can beat 'em if push comes to shove.

"Mr. Graham said the new Canadian command would also give the Forces more inter-operability with the U.S., and the policy review would firmly emphasize the need for strong military co-operation between Canada and the U.S.

In recent days, Mr. Graham has spoken forcefully about the need for closer military co-operation with the U.S., despite the government's decision to opt out of the Pentagon's ballistic missile defence shield for North America."

That's the part I don't like. Thanks for posting this one.

The real story here is not that we are re-organizing to an American Modael, but WHY are we moving to an Amerian Model.
    I almost hesitate to say...
Rome forced all conqured peoples to join ROME's millitary structure, under their COMMAND. Go look up NORTHCOM on google and check out the official site. They dont say it, but some more research will reveal a plan for ONE North America(USA/Canada/Mexico). One currency, One millitary, No borders and a Unified Police force(under the FBI AND CIA).

This is just another hint that we are conqured with no violence....

    im sad now....

You truely are ignorant aren't you?
your going to take the leftist opinions of 2 Canadians as the voice of our people?
Look at your own goverment. We dont live in a total Police State yet, but if your an American, you sure do. Read the USA PATRIOT ACT. If you break ANY state or federal law, your a terrorist. Being a "terrorist" according so said act means that they can revoke your American Citizenship" and declare you an Enemy Combatant, and if a 3 judge millitary tribunal decides that you should be executed, you will be. All in secret. They can make it illegal to talk about you. Go read the legislation dumbass. You can flame me and accuse me of lying, but all that will do is prove that you havent bothered to read the legislation YOUR government has made to enslave you. Oh Yeah its real!!
BTW if you leave your house during a "Red Alert" your also considered an "enemy combatant" and will be shot on site. You can't even pick up your children from school.

    Enjoy the Police State dumbass...

"Thanks for the laugh. It's always nice to see such profane dedication to to anonymous message boards."

I love it when this happens, seems to be a common thing on the internet :)

Just because some of the posters don't have perfect spelling and grammar doesn't really mean anything does it? I would imagine that a lot of the grammatical errors are simply because some of the posters have taken english as a second, third, or fourth language. Then some people just have bad spelling and grammar.

That kind of thing doesn't bother me as long as I can figure out what is trying to be said, that's the whole point :) I used to be more critical (especially in irc) until I realized that in at least one instance, the object of my criticism spoke another language more regularly than english.

    Just a thought.

The reaction I was expecting to this article and my first post has been somewhat surprising. Are all of the anti-americans on vacation or what :)

We keep trying to tell you Darvin, most of the regular readership is not 'against America'. This article about doing better things with the limited budget we've got. This is one thing our military needs to do, and people see that.
