Alberta Grannies Have What It Takes!

Swift said she is irked by the war in Iraq, as well as the fact that so much Alberta oil is heading to the U.S. She said the Grannies are meeting later this month and will decide then what they'll do when Cheney arrives. Lindsay Telfer, a regional director with the Sierra Club, said the environmental group will decide what to do about Cheney's visit when more details about the trip become available. http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/CalgarySun/News/2005/08/15/1173689-sun.html

    This story is fantastic, I was raised to respect my elders and have noticed society has turned away from that adage, but here we have a group of intelligent seniors, who are willing to take a stand and show us the way! Good for them and great leadership for the rest of us!

    To have respect,you must first earn it.Most elders are not respected because they don`t know anything.Want proof?
    Look at the mess the world is in.It sure as hell wasn`t the current generation that created it.
    Raging grannies are just that.Worry about the raging neocons.

    I totally disagree, the mess was made a handful of people, no different than blaming all teenagers for a few bad apples. I commend the Raging Grannies for getting out and doing something. As for respect, since I don't know everyone, I respect first, assuming they have earned it, until they prove otherwise. Most elders I know personally, know plenty, if we would actually listen to them, we wouldn't have to keep experiencing history's mistakes.

    So the grannies don't want Alberta to export oil? They would prefer massive unemployment and a standard of living that falls even further behind the rest of the world?

    They should give their collective heads a shake.

    If Canada is going to export oil it should do so with a nation that respects us. Dick Cheney is coming to Alberta to send a message to all Canadian, that oil in Canada belongs to the United States of America. I for one can't wait till the next election because I expect people like Jack Layton to make their platform about Canadian sovereignty and how we are simply becoming an american state.

    Give YOUR head a shake. How hard do you think it would be to sell our oil to other countries? Those countries would treat us with respect and equal business partners, unlike the Americans.

  8. Tue Aug 16, 2005 7:29 pm
    right...as if we cant sell our own oil, we have to sell it to the americans, so they can sell it for us....people who think like that make me sick. How can you not see how utterly retarded it is.

    If our NAFTA Partners Can Have National Energy Programs, Why Can't We?<br />
    <br />
    One of the goals that President George W. Bush laid out in his State of the Union address was "to promote energy independence for our country."<br />
    <br />
    Mexico, Canada's other North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partner, also has a policy of oil energy independence and public ownership. Canadians seem blissfully unaware that, while our NAFTA partners are looking after their own energy security, Canada is the only NAFTA country prevented from doing so. The recently announced Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America may well tie Canada’s hands tighter."<br />
    read the whole thing, it will make you sick, or make you think, depending on your perspective.<br />

    Don't we ever tire of rolling over for the master? This "sucking up" is totally demeaning and sickening.

    The Dick Cheney song:
    How much is that doggie in the window? Ralph, Ralph. The one with the waggily tail? Ralph, Ralph. How much is that doggie in the window? Ralph, Ralph. I do know that doggie's for sale. Ralph, Ralph.

    His Dickness needs to come and mark his territory you know.
    I think it's clear that Ralph Klein for some years now has smelled of Dick piss but does the entire province want to? Are the grannies the only ones protesting? I think we need do an email campaign uninviting him just so he knows in advance that murderers and war criminals are not welcome here. Emails are about as severe as we can get considering the eau de chieny that reaks all around our parliament buildings.

    BC is geographically and politically situated in one lousy spot. We also have a Premier that smells of Dick piss, we're next to Alberta and north and south of the USA. SOMEBODY HELP US WE'RE SURROUNDED!

    Agree with you 4Canada.
    Will dick piss get arrested by our police as a war criminal?
    Nah.He will just piss on Ralph and Canada,and ol Ralph will just lick it up.

    How quickly it devolves here. Hats off to the "grannies" for doing something. Don't know if it's the best way to get anything accomplished but if it makes folks feel better then so be it. There are other ways about it and more effective ones at that.
