Afghanistan Mission Impeached

The situation in Iraq continues to spiral out of control. The US is now taking heavier casualties than ever. When other NATO countries view what is happening in Iraq their reticence to become mired in the Afghanistan conflict is understandable. What our peerless leaders don’t understand is that the Iraq war impeaches the Afghanistan war. If they want to “sell” the second war the the first had to be successful. As the US now contemplates attacking Iran both these wars are further impeached. This attack may see the use of nuclear weapons and is likely to happen in the next few months as the Bush administration is faced with a rapidly closing window of opportunity. Such an attack would make Afghanistan and Iraq look like minor skirmishes as Iran has the ability to retaliate both militarily and economically. World oil prices would go through the roof. There is now a huge military build up taking place in the Persian Gulf and the Eastern Mediterranean. As we saw in the Gulf War and the war on Iraq once deployed these gruesome military assets will not return home unused. The impending attack of Iran is very revealing as it shows both the previous wars for what they really are – the naked pursuit of strategic self-interest on the part of the US. Though the perpetrators of war claim the noble obligation of liberating Afghanistan and Iraq and establishing democracy; the real objective is to establish strategic outposts and the boxing of Iran. Afghanistan is on the Eastern border of Iran and NATO and US troops can easily do a 180 degree turn toward an assault on Iran. The US has established fourteen permanent bases in Iraq and these would be used in any attack on Iran. The idea that Iraq will be turned back to Iraqi’s in any meaningful way is a myth. They are now a subjugated people. Israel’s attack on Lebanon was also part of this larger strategy as it too is part of the boxing of Iran. The Hizbollah has been neutralized, at least temporarily, and Lebanon is now populated with a UN/NATO stabilization force and this force potentially becomes part of an attack on Iran. Western leaders constitute a ship of fools as they have once again rushed into Afghanistan when that country has proven historically on numerous occasions it is a sinkhole for Western pretensions. As if that is not enough they contemplate yet another calamitous and bloody conflict in Iran. Serial/pre-emptive warfare as doctrine is now in a shambles. Each war must achieve successful closure otherwise subsequent wars are impeached and veiled agendas become manifestly obvious. The rationale for war must have a modicum of integrity. With these wars leaders have committed atrocious lies and transparent gambits. Leaders like Tony Blair refuse to make the patently obvious connection between military aggression in the Middle East and terrorist bombings in London. With each escalation in fighting there is a further poisoning of relations between the Mideast, Muslims, and the West and this toxicity becomes another historic benchmark that will persist for decades to come. Just as Israel and NATO are proxies to US power Iran is a proxy for Russian and Chinese power. It is well armed with weapons from those countries. These two countries also have a mutual defense pact born out of US neo-imperialist intentions. Western leaders might want to contemplate just how hard they can push in boxing Iran before these two countries push back. If the US and its surrogates see themselves in a clash of civilizations they just might get their wish. All this has been generously aided and abetted by a mainstream media busily stroking its profit margins and peddling specious truths of convenience. The dogs of war are showing a lot of tooth, not much brainpower, and spend a good part of each working day biting their own asses. All this as we march backwards and shamefully into the 21st Century. Let's keep something in perspective. "Canada" is not 'paying the price', although some tax dollars are used. However, those who are paying are those getting killed. Let's not pretend this is some 'communal' kind of suffering.

I agree Marcarc but our national news are telling us differently whenever a Canadian soldier dies. They don't report it as a military death but prefer to express the matter as one of OUR soldier dying for OUR cause and mission in Afghanistan. I cringe everytime.
---
« Il y a une belle, une terrible rationalité dans la décision d'être libre. » - Gérard Bergeron
I was down in Calif. just outside San Fran last week, to a wedding of 20-somethings, and the talk centred around careers, how big a house in how exclusive a community, with how many Hummers in driveways. It did not centre around their war, or being a plumber, or anything other than higher, faster, bigger, better............

That's all coming to an abrupt end. Those twenty-something's will likely be caught off guard, unaware of what's happening. Too bad they were raised by people who taught them what's important in life but didn't really know it themselves. So many people are going to be ruined because they are so busy trying to out-do the Jones' they won't realize that they'd better get out of debt before it's too late. In fact, in the States, it already is too late for some. The housing market is coming in for a "hard landing" and what will follow will be a recession, which will translate to recession for us as well. It's so nice to have all of one's eggs in one basket, isn't it?
