Make Poverty History!

You may have seen the advertisements for One.org - the American version. Below is the Canadian website; I think this is worth supporting. The people of the world have more power to influence and really make change, if we want to! Check out the site for yourself. Quote from the site: At the start of the 21st century 1.2 billion people live in abject poverty, most of them women. More than 800 million people go to bed hungry and 50,000 people die every day from poverty-related causes. It doesn't have to be this way. If we choose - if we have the will to act - we can make poverty history. http://www.makepovertyhistory.ca/e/platform.html

    They have a white band to promote the idea of ending poverty, as well as a campaign letter to PM Martin and your elected MP to promote changes which governments have been relectant to do, and which we the people can help change, like ending Free trade and making trade fair! I think this is a movement that the people can really make a difference. I hope you all check it out and sign the letters! If you are not Canadian, there is a link on the <a href="http://www.one.org">www.one.org</a> for other countries that are participating. So far in Canada there are almost 5000 signatures, I think we can do alot better than that...pass it on.<p>---<br>If I stand for my country today...will my country be here to stand for me tomorrow?

    Arrr Matey! <BR><BR> The goal of the end of world poverty is righteous, but I want to remind everyone that there are many many poor here in Canada as well. I know, I was one of them before I took to the high seas. This is an increasing problem in Canada and we, as Canadians, should address this first and foremost. <BR><BR> <a href="http://www.ccsd.ca/pubs/2000/up/">http://www.ccsd.ca/pubs/2000/up/</a><br> <a href="http://www.mapleleafweb.com/features/general/poverty/coast_to_coast.html">http://www.mapleleafweb.com/features/general/poverty/coast_to_coast.html</a> <BR>... ad naseum. <BR><BR> Arrrr!<p>---<br>- Saskatchewan River Pirate

    If you go to the site, you will see, they are talking about ending poverty in Canada, as well as the world! That is what I like about it, really serious people committed to doing something that is within our power, making democracy work! Check out the site. The Canadian link, is very detailed.

    Arrr!

    In my masterful pirate speed reading I must've missed the section on Canada. Only having one eye is a disadvantage at times. Nevertheless, there can't be too much attention drawn to it!

    Many thanks.

    I signed up as well. Very easy to do, and I like the touch of emailing your MP.

    Canadians are asking, why do americans hate us? They hate our freedoms: our freedom of religion, our freedom of speech, our freedom to disagree with each other.

    I signed up and am also considering buying a few "Make Poverty History" bands. Poverty in Canada and the World won't just bugger off on its own, we need to help get rid of it by being aware and acting upon our awareness. Thank you whelan costen for informing me and the rest of Vive about this!

    I have to say, that I am surprised that so many people speak about the poverty issue, but there aren't that many people viewing this article, in comparison to others. What does that say? I can't believe people don't care, but I am curious, anybody else find that interesting?

    Lawsuit Alleges Flaw <br />
    In Money Creation<br />

    John Ruiz Dempsey filed a class action lawsuit on April 15 on behalf of the People of Canada alleging the financial system creates money out of "thin air." According to newMediaExplorer.org, which reported the story, John Ruiz Dempsey is a criminologist and forensic litigation specialist. NewMediaExplorer.org reported that the "suit names Envision Credit Union ("Envision"), a credit union; Laurentian Bank of Canada ("Laurentian Bank"), Royal Bank of Canada ("Royal Bank"), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce ("CIBC"), Bank of Montreal ("BOM"), TD Canada Trust ("Canada Trust") and Canadian Payment Association ("CPA") as civil conspirators." <br />
    <br />
    The lawsuit argues that financial institutions illegally charged interest on money that was loaned to borrowers, because the money was not linked to a tangible commodity such as gold or silver. Banks and credit unions did not actually have the capital that it gave as loans, and didn't have the right to loan depositors' money without obtaining consent. Furthermore, the lawsuit claims that money was counterfeited by digitally creating money that never existed. <br />
    <br />
    The lawsuit is the first of its kind filed in Canada. The consequences to the financial system are so large that the odds of success seem rather small. According to the Abbotsford Times, John Ruiz Dempsey is not a lawyer and in 2004 the B.C. Court of Appeal ruled that he is a vexatious litigant. <br />
