Crete's colleague Thierry St-Cyr said a single currency would also shield Quebec from Canada's central bank -- which has opposed the idea of a single North American currency.
"A common currency would protect us from the Bank of Canada's monetary policy, which is essentially aimed at containing inflationary pressures from Western Canada ... and aiding the growth of the oil sector to the detriment of Quebec's manufacturing sector," St-Cyr said.
Bank of Canada Governor David Dodge said in September the benefits of a floating currency for Canada far outweighed the costs of a united currency.
"For the foreseeable future I don't see conditions in which a currency union with the United States would make sense," Dodge said at the time.

The Bloc (&the PQ) would be much better off IMO to focus on democratic reforms and submit these big decisions to popular vote, i.e. a referendum. Dito on getting rid of the Senate. I really do not trust the party system to deal with these large issues.
