U.S. will hand over Saddam in two weeks: Iraq interim PM

BAGHDAD (AP) - The United States will hand over Saddam Hussein and all other detainees to Iraq's new government over the next two weeks as sovereignty is restored, the interim prime minister said Monday.

U.S. officials have said they plan to continue to hold up to 5,000 prisoners deemed a threat to the coalition even after the restoration of Iraqi sovereignty at the end of this month. They say as many as 1,400 detainees will either be released or transferred to Iraqi authorities.

However, in an interview with Al-Jazeera television, Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said Iraqi officials expect to take possession of Saddam and all other detainees with the transfer of power.

"All the detainees will be transferred to the Iraqi authorities and the transporting operation will be done within the two coming weeks," Allawi said. "Saddam and the others will be delivered to the Iraqis."

Well apparently not, or not necessarily. GWB doesn't give a damn about international law or the Red Cross.

    Update!

I heard today that Bush said they will not hand over Saddam until Iraq is more stable. They likely don't want him being put back into power by the Iraqis so they can get rid of the Americans once and for all.

Oh, and Flat Cath, my See Pee MP said that Iraq was invaded because Saddam was killing 100s of his own people on a daily basis don't you know? Kevin says he gets an upset stomach thinking Harper will win and I get sick whenever I hear their scripted assumptions and propaganda.

Yep I got a similar b.s. reply when I wrote to my previous con/alliance mp who isn't running thankfully, ah he said he was a doctor and had seen first had the impact of war, but alas it was necessary...so I'm guessing he had a little trip over there somewhere one time and saw some blood shed, but he never saw it in his small town Alberta and that is why we don't get into wars at home, just over there! They truly make me sick...war has never answered any of our problems it just creates a nice bank account for the war machines...and of course major population control.

    Just heard on CBC NEWS:

The US 9/11 Commission finally came out with their report saying what most of us here suspected all along:

There was no link between AlQuaeda and Iraq

No WMD (except in Harper's and Bush's mind) no link to Al Quaeda.

Which leaves as the only reason for the war (because the USA cozies up to so many bastards, e.g. the bastard in Kazakstan, who boils some vicitms alive, and does nothing about mass murder in Sudan as it did nothing in Rwanda) US imperialism and Israel's interests. Nice friends.

Actually I'm not anti-American (except in the mild Canadian way of disliking some cousin) but those neo-cons are a real danger to the world.

Let's not forget that many Americans, e.g. Princeton professor Paul Krugman or self-made billionaire George Soros in the Bubble of American Supremacy to name just two, say the same thing.

Of course Harper doesn't want to see that and Martin can't see it either.

For a lack of a better spot I'll put this here. Sorry if this is a terrible transgression.

:)

From CBS Marke*censored*ch:

Fair use

"Web parody: Read Laura's lips

The United States Student Association and the Campaign for America's Future made a clever political statement Wednesday with the release of a Web ad, parodying First Lady Laura Bush.

The basis for the ad: House Republicans introduced a law that would raise student loans by an average of $5,500. This figure represents the additional interest payments resulting from the proposed switch to variable interest rates.

To protest this possibility, the lobbies digitally animated a photo of Laura Bush, making her lips move in sync with the following dialogue: "Education is very important to my husband. That's why he wants you to pay thousands more for your college loan. You see, if your education costs you more, you'll value it more. We're compassionate like that.

"Big banks helped our campaign so much, and they're expecting a big return. That's where you all come in," the ad continues. "Everyone knows the kids in my family don't even have student loans like you do. And besides, it's not like you're going to send us the bill."

But that's exactly what the activists wants people to do. The Web commercial asks college graduates to mail their student loan bills to President Bush to demonstrate opposition to the bill. "

:)
