A Message From Ernie Crist

When I found out that they secretly taped telephone conversations of SUSPECTED criminals without permission of a court of law, I said nothing again, for I was law-abiding and thought I had nothing to fear. I wanted to help the police in their fight against crime. When I found out that they were secretly taping telephone conversations of people without permission of the courts for no reason other than that they were critical of government policies or institutions, I said nothing again. I thought this was merely a precautionary measure to determine the veracity of the allegations. I was still trusting. But then one day... http://www.canadianactionparty.ca/MainPages/News.asp?Type=TRUE&ID=510&Language=English [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on August 29, 2005]

It is a total deprivation of liberty, designed to create a police state of docile cows much like what Huxley and Orwell had the vision to see and write about. Whatever little freedom and democracy we had left, we must defend with words, the only weapon we have to fight the huge arsenal of the supposedly "free world". Keep writing.

The main point here is that all police states and dictatorships in history have been and are being established to serve the wealth taking ambitions of self appointed ruling classes.

If wealth could be "created" as the economist and neocon propaganda claims, we wouldn't have neoclassical market economics, basically legalized crime for the expropriation of property and lives, crime, and the ultimate economic competition called globalization and war.

Neither would a child die of starvation somewhere in the world every 5 seconds.

The greatest enemy of wealth taking schemes is democracy, because under democracy everybody's supposed to be equal, therefore, the would be rulers must do everything to destroy it, while brainwashing people to believe that they're in fact building democracy and freedom.

Now, does it make me a "liberal", or a "leftist" for pointing this out ? Ed Deak, Big Lake, BC.

It is legal for anyone to record a conversation so long as at least one party to that conversation is aware of it. This is one of the few ways people facing harassment from extortion rackets, disgruntled or jilted lovers and spouses, etc. can protect themselves from false allegations. I know of men in prison who are there because of charges laid against them by vengeful spouses that are groundless, yet there is no evidence refuting the charges because there was no record of conversation showing intent to harm.
That is a side of this matter of taping phones that is not well known.

One party in the conversation, but not an outsider to the conversation, and that is an important difference!

How does Mr. Crist know that he was taped? How does he know the CIA has these recordings? Was he charged with something that nobody had knowledge about? Did he get questioned by the CIA on a trip to the US? Did he find listening devices? Or is he making wild accusations based on heresay and paranoia?

If there is a decent answer to any of the above other than the last question, I'd be outraged too. Covert surveillance of anyone in this country is illegal without a court approved "wiretap". I'll join the rest of you in screaming about this from the rooftops. However, there is nothing here to show me any proof that this occurred. Innuendo and hyperbole.

Besides, I find it hard to believe that the incompetent Mounties, who can't even maintain recorded conversations of Air India suspects, would maintain records about car deals with respect to a mundane councilor in North Van.

I'd second MS's sentiments. Without supporting details the reader is left powerless and at a distinct loss. If it be as described then it is indeed a serious matter for Canadians as well as Americans. I'd suggest that depriving readers with the information needed to understand and respond is a dereliction of civic duty. Come, let us know who in particular needs to be called upon to answer for the acts alleged. Surely it would work to the benefit of the person on the receiving end of this type of treatment as well as the rest of us.

Yes, and yes again. I agree with the two previous commentators. Did this really happen? How does
Mr. Crist know it happened? Was he stopped at the border? Arrested in the US? Visited by CSIS? This needs to be verified and proven. It sounds a bit surreal to me.

But, and this is the big question.... If it really happened, why in the world aren't there enough of us mad or concerned about it to force the story unto the mainstream media? If necessary, someone should camp out Cindy Sheehan style in front of major media offices until they can no longer ingnore important news items like this.

It's like the story of Texas State Troopers stopping cars on BC highways. That made not a ripple on commercial news outlets here in central Canada. (That's all we get now, unless we are interested in the price of coal in Staffordshire). And it too sounds strange to me. Did it really happen? A lot of us remain unsure. When I mentioned it casually in a conversation, people thought I was a nutty conspiracy freak. We have to be certain that serious allegations made on progressive websites like "Vive" are indeeed substantitive, and then we have to become much, much more proactive in forcing our media to start telling us more of the truth.

A very brief search on the story re:Texas state troopers in B.C. will yield many facts in the story. I encourage you to be wary, and seek out the truth for yourself, doubters seldom believe the messanger. Some links
Many sources are mentioned on the vive article, unfortunatley the CBC links don't work because the boss won't let them work.
---
If I stand for my country today...will my country be here to stand for me tomorrow?

Thank you Costen. This is valuable information. At least I will be able to convince my skeptical associates that I am not dreaming this stuff up. I would still like to see more evidence in Mr. Crist's case, but I wouldn't doubt that he is telling the truth.

This shows how powerless we have become. I know you and many others are trying just as hard as is humanly possible to make a difference, but the bad guys are gaining on us all the time. We need a miracle.
