Canada: 1867-2007 R.I.P.

Transport Canada has not yet developed its own no-fly list of potential security risks, leaving commercial airlines to do their own screening using various data. Officials at the agency say once they have a list, they plan to incorporate an appeals process to allow passengers blacklisted by mistake to have their names removed. Arar is just one of the most recent air travellers to be held up while flying within Canada because their names appear on U.S. watch lists. Two years ago, Air Canada refused to let Toronto editorial cartoonist Shahid Mahmood board a flight between Vancouver and Victoria. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2006/07/07/no-fly.html [Editor's note: Sorry to completely re-write what you posted PatM, but it was basically a copy of another story we've posted less than a week ago. http://www.vivelecanada.ca/article.php/20060702100110742 Dr C]

Old News but amazing the subject mentioned is Arar. Two years ago a man from Courtenay was banned from flying to see his ill mother in Toronto. He had to sort it out in Oklahoma and did eventually make it, but still to late for the funeral. He had a common name like Harrison. It took a while to convince the Americans and Air Canada that it was a case of mis-identification. Not much mention of him and I wonder why.

Oops, good call Caleb! I didn't see that earlier posting.

I'm disappointed that the CBC article babbles on about Arar yet again. Yes, the Arar case is indicitive of how the US government and their Canadian puppet regime will use anyone with brown skin to try and scare the populace, but its not going to worry all the 'white folks' up here because they aren't brown skinned.

CBC radio did, however, interview a CHRISTIAN PRIEST that has TWICE been denied travel on Air Canada because he appears on US lists. What was his 'terrist' link? Why, advocating for the poor and being against war of course. Can't have these obvious Al Qaeda idiologies being spread around the country now, can we.

So, you think when we wake up, we will, in the best imitation of Bobby Ewing, find it's all a bad dream.........? Perhaps nothing more than a bit of bad beef.......?

IIRC The Priest's name is Rev. John Smith. That's why he gets 'interviewed' a lot.

The other side of this coin (which needs to be mentioned just for fun) is of course that if you have a "normal" name and surname, skin and background information, and do not have anything to hide, there is really really nothing to fear.

It then boils down to what the word "normal" means. And then we are completely in semantics.....

"Normal" is a word whose meaning is defined by it's environment.

In 1930's Germany, blatant government prejudice towards jews, communists, homosexuals, or anyone else who didn't meet the standards of, or agree with, the Nazi Party was "normal".

Until the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's, prejudice against Blacks, including lynchings, was considered "normal" in the US deep South.

Today, filtering everything through the filter of "political correctness" is considered "normal".

Far as I can tell, "normal" is just another excuse to descriminate against people who do not look, think, believe, speak, or act in ways that are convienient to the prevailing ideas of whatever group is currently in charge.

If you go into the JanAllen (second link above) story you'll find:

"1) Establishment of a Trilateral Regulatory Cooperative Framework
The leaders said: We affirm our commitment to strengthen regulatory cooperation in this and other key sectors and to have our central regulatory agencies complete a "trilateral regulatory cooperation framework" by 2007.
    "

Once the planning is done, it's basically over.

Sorry, the original story I submitted had it, but it turned out that someone beat me to the punch so Caleb took my introduction (US No-Fly lists being used for Canadians within Canada) and made a posting out of it.
