"That's my own thoughts and I will be branded a devil, but I am a firm believer that there can be a mix of public and private," he told reporters before a $400-a-plate fundraising dinner that attracted more than 1,500 people Thursday.

"This idea that everything has to be totally and absolutely public and everything has to be done in a hospital is one of those straitjackets that we're faced with."

This guy is really starting to get on my nerves. I don't understand how he can seem to think he is smart in saying private/public combination is good for Canada's health care.

If he was smart he would maybe look next door (U.S) and see what private health care means to lower income people. Of course his argument is it will be a combination, but his either dumb and clueless or he knows very well it will lead to full privatisation in the long term.

The way it works is that the public portion of the plan pays for the "upgraded" part of the plan which will only be accessible if you have the money, this cuts down on line ups. Then the regular inferior part of the plan is foisted on the public who are told not to complain cause "after all it is free". It is just Ralph's way of trying to wedge another P3 give away through the door.

Of course it is us that pays for the whole thing, we fund the whole plan and then we get the cut rate package,n, in return you can expect lots of lip serviceow that Martin and the Liberals have said they will talk changes (re: privatization) to the Health Care Plan with the Provinces (meaning if they want to privatize then they can).

Liberals and Conservatives only want two things from Canadians, their votes and their money and in return you can expect lots of lip service and plenty of reduced service ( cause they must be frugal when it comes to giving us any returns on our investments (taxes)).

Try the same article, with the actual quotes from Klein not edited out:<br> <a href='http://www.canada.com/edmonton/edmontonjournal/news/story.html?id=bda73f38-356e-4cc8-92ad-4452fe9f3b0d'>Klein said other provincial governments know there's a problem with health care, but his government is taking action.<br> He wants "flexibility" so that his government can try new ways of raising money through the health-care system.<br></a><p> So, all he's looking to do is find other ways of funding the public system since the <a href='http://www.canada.com/national/story.html?id=199ce0ca-c7db-4e78-9f19-e8776fc2e731'>Feds</a> won't.<p> <p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />

"We have to look at other countries that do have a mix and look at why these countries are ranked higher than Canada," he said. "Why is Sweden ranked higher than Canada?

"We haven't looked at the nine other countries ranked ahead of Canada, all of which have some form of public and private mix."

The only reason some of the other countries 'might' be ranked higher than Canada is because of the DELIBERATE trashing of our health care system by federal and provincial thieves! Canada can very well once again have a totally public system that is the envy of the world just like the good ol` days, but the treasonous politicians are purposely killing our system when there`s no need, and they know damn well that the money is there to ratify the Romanow report! I wish Klein would do a photo opt in a sour gas field!

    Dave,

Whenever Ralph opens his mouth, voila, a sour gas field is created! It's the rest of us that need to steer clear of him.
