That\'s just over the top. I\'m flabbergasted. Would the US government give a census job to Canada\'s Ministry of Defense or DND?

I e-mailed the loser! The traitor probably won`t respond, but maybe, if enough of us bother mercenary politicians like this, he might just listen.

Hey Dave, remember the Lockheed-Martin issues in \"Bowling for Columbine\"?!! They own/manage the local welfare board in Colorado, kicking as many people off welfare as possible, to make a profit.

Also Dave, who do you think will get the contract for our new helicopters? Something tells me the maker of the Cormorant (formerly the EH-101) will have little luck getting the contract again.

This is so symbolic of the Liberals, it STINKS!

I\'m shocked! Even knowing our Liberals, I\'m shocked!

1 - Why is a weapons/rocket maker getting ANY census contract? (They also own a local welfare board, believe it or not.)

2 - Why would ANY non-Candian company get this contract. All governmetn administrative contracts should be Canadian. That should just be a given.

This move is so traitorous, it\'s BLATANT!!! THIS PROVES THAT CANADIAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS DO BACKROOM DEALS WITH THEIR AMERICAN FRIENDS!!!

And what \'s with Allan Rock\'s \"I assume they have the expertise.....\"? Doesn\'t that tell you something right there? Isn\'t it his job to figure the details out BEFORE the contract is signed?!! This is putrid! Also, can anyone think of a bigger morale-killer?...I wonder who initiated this BUSINESS TRANSACTION?!

I\'m doing what I can to work this up into a bonafide action, with a form that will allow visitors to the site to send an email using a sample letter, etc.--plus a press release. Check back tomorrow, and I\'ll let you know...

I too am outraged, actually it was such a small piece of news on the internet, that right away made me suspicious! I emailed Mr. Rock and the prime minister, my MP(who rarely answers mostly when he agrees with me) and Stephan Harper and old Joe Clark, cause I\'m not sure if Mckay can read,(as per contract with Orchard), as well as Jack Layton. That way Mr. Rock will have a hard time saying nobody spoke out! But really we should swamp these guys, as this amounts to Canadian\'s being forced by law to hand over private info to a foreign power! For Rock to say this is a result of WTO and FTAA is just another reason we should be out, out, out! A census amounts to our entire stats for this country, who we are, where we come from, what we do etc and that info is none of the U.S.\'s business! I would suggest that a census, is a matter of national and personal security, why don\'t we just send them all our SIN\'s and credit cards, bank account numbers too!!! This is the most blatant disregard for Canadians by our own government, since NAFTA!

Just an afterthought, \'doing Canada\'s census\' that word \'doing\' can have an awful lot of hidden meanings. I was watching the great Canadian political show, \'This Hour has Twenty Two Minutes\'(a great place for real news) the two old ladies accosted Martin,it was terrific, but they asked him if he was happily married, didn\'t wait for his response, assumed yes and said, \'that is good \'cause if the Prime Minister isn\'t doing his wife, than he is doing the country\' Thought it was incredibly true and also of the census!

    Here\'s what I sent:
\"Contracting out a census job to a foreign defence corporation?? & you claim that there\'s nothing to worry about? I think there IS something to worry about when there\'s a thing in the NAFTA/WTO that says our governments can\'t block a foreign bid for information! There\'s also a problem when a government doesn\'t give contracts to any domestic company. Do you think the US government be interested in letting the Canadian Commercial Corporation or the Canadian Defence Industries Association conduct a census & collect information about the USA? If not, WHY NOT?\"
I wonder if he\'ll take it seriously. I didn\'t send him any money.

The only way to stop this is to start a boycott 2006 census movement.

The 2006 Census should be boycotted for 2 reasons:

    1) Do you really trust an American Defense contractor with your personal information? Look what happened to Maher Arar. In September 2003, there was a scandal in America where JetBlue (A WestJet type airline) gave data on 5 million passengers to an defense contractor who gave it to the Army! I was born in Canada, but if I wasn\'t, I\'d be worried.

    2) This is blood money. I will not pad the profits of a weapons manufacturer.

If enough people make a noise about boycotting the 2006 census, they\'ll back off.

Okay, the Canadian Tourism Commission made a boneheaded move with the Fodor's Travel Guide episode but this goes far beyond that.

It took me two weeks of harassing the CTC and Fodor’s to get some straight answers from them and the same should be done here. I will be calling, emailing, faxing and otherwise being a pain in the ass until they explain why they went with a US defence contractor instead of a Canadian company on something as important as our census.

Surely there must have been at least one Canadian company bidding on the contract. Now that is the hitch - did this go to open tender like the travel guide? And what about Stats Can? Surely they could have been contracted to carry this out! Or how about the multitude of public relations houses in Canada that specialize in polls and surveys?

If anyone needed any more evidence that this government is not only ineffective, but also bordering on traitorous this should do it.

I was going to email and call Lockheed today, but this little tidbit is there as a forwarning: Specific questions about the corporation: Resources do not permit response to questions regarding our history, requests to locate employees, or requests for detailed information on business unit programs.

With that I thought okay - where next? How about any Canadian division? Indeed there is... only they have the same disclaimer! http://www.lockheedmartin.com/canada/contacts.htm On both websites neither claim any prior work or knowledge of survey or census taking!

---
If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.

I agree. We should make a lot of noise about boycotting the census. The other alternative is to move to PEI. If Lockheed uses the tourism maps produced by another American company who got the mapping job from Tourism Canada, then they don\'t know PEI exists. Northern Ontario is also safe.

Let me know how that goes Roy--We could always work together on an action. I\'d say let\'s hammer hard on email/letters/calls first, and if Rock goes ahead and hires Lockheed Martin for the main census contract, it\'s boycott time.

I still am waiting for an answer from someone in Ottawa about the idea of privatizing the coast guard, and then you hear about Bush\'s threat to people attempting to go to Cuba via Canada, and now we have a U.S. defence company doing our census!!! What more, how many blatant acts of sell out of this country are we going to watch, never being consulted never being told until it is a done deal. I mean really NAFTA, WTO are the reason behind this, says Rock, well gee maybe we could do a 10 year study to see why this is happening and if it is a good idea? Maybe we could get a U.S. company to tell us if we should agree to all this sell out and they can tell us if our stats are right or if we need to integrate further or move some of our population to an easier target? This makes me sick!

I emailed and got a fax number for Lockheed. Still no reply as of yet but it is the weekend! I asked them about any prior experience or expertise in census taking and why they feel they should be able to do ours. As well I asked if they believe the reverse could ever be true - Canadians doing their census.

This could be a long fight as it does involve NAFTA overtones. We should look for allies within the ranks of the opposition - even the CA. This may just draw out the few patriots that belong to that party. I will also try to get a hold of Jack Layton and Paul Hellyer and press upon them the need to stay on top of this issue, as this could be a great catalyst for putting our sovereignty into the forefront of public opinion.

We should not only go after Rock and the Liberals - we should expose Lockheed for what they are - merchants of death. Facts and figures on their manufactured equipment and their end results i.e. - sales to third world countries, deaths of civilians, and use by dictators, should also be compiled as ammunition (no pun intended) to fight this battle.

I will highlight the actions here on Vive on the CDM portal, in our newsletter going out this week, and I will urge uberCulture to do the same. Your form letter is a great start and I hope many people take advantage of it. We need to make ourselves heard!

It is going to be a stormy fall session, we will see to that!
