Softwood Lumber "Give-And-Take"

Posted on Monday, January 30 at 11:44 by Eleanor
So much for the Tories and their bogus, bullshit, "Stand Up For Canada" election campiagn slogan! mart P.S. Maybe with Harper in charge, in the Tory spirit of 'give and take - ie -we give while the U.S. takes - in return for giving the Americans everthing they want on softwood lumber" Canada will give the U.S. unfetterd access to Canadian water, in return.

Now that's ridiculous. Harper should show Bush the invoice and demand payment for what ahs already been agreed to.

Does anyone remember the "October Surprise"...when Reagan "negotiated" the release of the hostages in Iran...after the election.

I think we will have a "February surprise"....an agreement already brokered between Harper and Bush to make Harper appear to be a more competent leader than Martin...all in the hopes of securing a Conservative majority in the future. Then watch out!

Was a little too young to remember that one, wasn't our embassy involved? Anyway I do recall the conspiracy theory about Bush having Oh-ssam-ah locked up in a dungeon, waiting until a week before the last election to stage a fake capture. Lol. As they say, throw enough shit against the wall...

Good grief! First the arctic thing and now this. Well I guess it is a step up from the desperate fear mongering of pre-election days. By comparison these latest conspiracy theories seem pretty lame.

btw: Martin didn't need any help seeming incompetent. There is a reason Mr. Dithers retired.

"Was a little too young to remember that one, wasn't our embassy involved?"

Yes, us crusty oldtimers remember it well. There was one telling line in the newspaper that there were a large number of people in the US embassy, but a small number of hostages. The media was remarkably quiet about the discrepancy, but a couple weeks later it was revealed that many had made it to the Canadian embassy. They were re-passported and shipped back, instead of remaining as hostages for many months.

Lol. I thought someone might like to spike that ball Dr Caleb. Cudos. Don't forget to credit the Swedes as well. Oh yeah, and a few key US operatives.

But you ignored the main point...what of the Ohh sahma surprise? Truth is these conspiracy theories are a dime a dozen. And the longer Harper stays in office the lamer they seem to get. At the beginning of the campaign we were treated to pants-shitting over an extreme, scary, man who will use the military to impose martial law. Now we are down to relatively minor conjectue over staged arcitc standoffs. And Harper hasn't even made the trip to Rideau Hall yet.

    From CBC archives:<br />
"As this news report illustrates, Canada's role in the so-called Canadian Caper is only revealed three months later when they assist the Americans to safely flee Tehran."<br />

Thanks for the link. Didn't realize we only saved 6 out of 70. I guess other nations and maybe even US negotiators should get some credit too? Nevertheless, a reflection of how tyrannical regimes can be foiled if we work together with our allies.
