Shock And Awe; The Sequel

Posted on Friday, March 10 at 11:57 by 4Canada
White House press secretary Scott McClellan summarized the administration’s view saying, “We’ve made it clear as have many in the international community that the regime must suspend all enrichment activity. It cannot be allowed to pursue enrichment in any capacity on any scale that would allow the regime to develop technologies needed to develop nuclear weapons.” McClellan’s comments are a clear violation of the letter and spirit of the treaty which is not intended to arbitrarily deprive any member of the advantages of nuclear technology. The administration’s brazen declaration puts the onus on the 35-member board of the IAEA to reject their demands. Unfortunately, most of them are already cowed by the bullying tactics of the US. This tells us that the system is broken and cannot be expected to provide solutions to this or any of the other pressing issues that face the world community. The “superpower model” of governance allows one party to quash agreements on global warming, nuclear proliferation, chemical-biological weapons and anything else that isn’t in its narrow, subjective interests. Will the member states cave in on these species-threatening issues too, simply to please Washington? http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article12245.htm [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on March 13, 2006]

The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, referred to as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), obligates the five acknowledged nuclear-weapon states (the United States, Russian Federation, United Kingdom, France, and China) not to transfer nuclear weapons, other nuclear explosive devices, or their technology to any non-nuclear-weapon state. Non-nuclear-weapon States undertake not to acquire or produce nuclear weapons or nuclear explosive devices. They are required also to accept safeguards to detect diversions of nuclear materials from peaceful activities, such as power generation, to the production of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.
Four countries did not sign, Cuba, Israel, India, and Pakistan. They are exempted from the treaty unlike Iran who lied and signed. The Iranians and North Koreans accecpted aid so they would not proceed but they lied. Repeat after me. The Iranians lied. The Koreans lied. They are the treaty breakers here.
Is a fairly negotiated treaty not good enough for Bush bashers anymore? Don't ever count on the UN or on diplomacy and treaties. You don't believe it.

At this moment, Bush is also attempting to change the NPT so India may be sold civilian Nuclear technology. India had never signed the agreement. American Nuclear companies will stand to make billions on the deal. The US had for thirty years, stood by the agreement that non NPT countries would receive the technolgy from them.

It beats me why the IAEA does not insist that India sign the NPT, now that it has become the USA's latest "favoured nation".

Canadians (who know how the USA continually ignores treaties like NAFTA) should keep on telling the rest of the world that all the current sabre rattling (that Iran wants a bomb, blah blah blah) is deafening and is just a way to cover up the dramatic changes that will be brought about by the Tehran Oil Bourse.

CNN’s Lou Dobbs says the US won the right to buy mangos from India. Between you and him, someone has lost the billions you claim the US will get when India gets the chance to buy all the uranium they can use. They couldn't buy it as long as there were international sanctions on the country for having tested a nuclear weapon in 1998. They only had a few years worth of enriched uranium left.
But this has nothing at all to do with any crazy mullahs who want their own bomb and who believe it is written that they will be the survivors after the final holocaust , so watch out Jews they’re on their way. They even have Canadian cheerleaders this time.
Who is right, you or Dobbs? Maybe Dobbs should expect more from life too.

Is the bomb they want the one the inspectors couldn't find? Is it part of the wmds that Bush said were in Iraq? Or is it the "bourse" that is bothering Bush?
