CKA has also helped us optimize Vive in various search engines, which should drive even more traffic to our already-opular site.
The board of Vive and CKA hope that this will mean more long-term stability and better technical help for Vive users (such as ending our recent problems with logins) and help continue the growth of both the Vive and CKA forums by attracting new users to each.
It shouldn't be immediately obvious that the Vive site is now being run from CKA. You're going to see the main differences to the new site just in how the forums work and in comments on articles.
The old content of Vive is still there, because all the old forum topics from the former Vive forum have been migrated over, as well as all the articles/editorials and their comments.
But all the article comments have been converted to forum posts, and will now operate using the CKA News commenting system.Vive members can't see the rest of the CKA forums at present, but CKA members can see the vive forums and will be welcome to participate if they follow the forums rules.
I hope everyone from both communities will welcome each other, but CKA members will need to keep in mind that if they're posting in the Vive forums things will be a little more controlled since we have a tighter control of flaming, personal attacks and over-the-top partisanship (something we've had to develop over the years due to the help of a few too many trolls!). For all the regular CKA forums nothing changes.
For the Vive Le Canada members, your usual account passwords and usernames should still work because all accounts have been migrated over. Your username/pass should work on www.canadaka.net or www.vivelecanada.ca.However since this is a big migration, unexpected problems could pop up. If your account isn’t working, first try the lost password feature, then please contact me at admin@canadaka.net
Also, if you were already a CKA member and had the same username on both sites, your profile on CKA is the one that remains, so use that password. If you had an account on both sites but the username was slightly different, they were not merged, but if you contact me i can manually merge them, so you can get all your posts from both sites attached to your profile. You can contact Trevor at the admin address above or post in the Vive Help and Support forum for assistance regarding this.
The new Vive site is now going live, but it is not totally compete. Trevor has plans for numerous additional features. If you are a regular news/article contributor to Vive, you will have to use the new system, which should be pretty easy to figure out, since it’s less complicated than the old posting page.
And if you need help, Trevor is there to assist you.
I hope everyone will bear with us as we complete this move, and that you will support the revamped Vive site and our new partner CKA. We felt this was truly necessary in order to ensure the survival and continued growth of Vive, and we hope that the new site serves your needs even better than the old one, and helps us continue our work effecting grassroots change and fighting for the future of Canada.

One question - I have 2 accounts, one on each site, slightly different. "DrCaleb" here, and "Dr Caleb" there. Will they remain seperate accounts?
No like I said in the post, if you have an account on either site that are slightly different like that, I can manually merge them. Send me a quick email requesting it, so I don't forget. I will prbably have a number of merges to do.

Rural, if you go to the Vive main page, the third box down on the right side - "Article Comments". These are the recent comments on Vive.

The next one down is "Forum Posts" which is kind of a mash up between CKA and Vive recent posts.

The 'Recent Comments' and 'Stories in the last 1 day' are gone.
With this new change, there is no more 'Front Page' as you knew it, it's all 'Forum' style posts. Some of the bugs are still being worked out. Any comments or stories since sometime last night are also gone. I assume they still exist, just they are still sitting on the old hardware.
Oh dear oh dear! Not happy about that at all, I had been going to make some commentry upon the volume of stories not closely related to Vive's stated objectives and that wading thrugh them all was becoming a pain! Sound like now "Article comments" include the former "forum" replys making it even more difficult. With the number of "stories" comming in many new ones will be off the first page (as was increasingly happening on the old site despite daily visits) and will have fewer showing in the "Article comments" due to being combined with the forum. As I said us old farts do not like change, but I suspect this one is going to be a particular problem for me!!
Yea, I posted this morning too. The amount that got transferred over doesn't really capture the essence, does it?
I apologize for the lost posts that were made recently, some of the more recent news posts and comments didn't transfer, I will be looking to see if I can manualy migrate them over.
We'll have some growing pains, but let me list the alternatives for those not in the know:

1) Sell Advertising, and cave into corporations like we never wanted to. We also discussed ethical advertisers, but that really is just semantics. 'Ford' vs 'Green Peace'. What's the difference as far as corporate sponsors go?

2) Wait till the milk crate fully rots, the server falls over and dies forever. We didn't know when this would be, but odds are, not long now.

3) Accept Trevors' offer of total independence, with his help and him supplying the hardware and bandwidth.

We knew #3 would come with some growing pains - but we would grow. Not stagnate, or die.
Vive Le "Vive Le Canada"!
I know the article comments are broken, i'm working on it right now.
I have determing that the article comments migration didn't work well, so I am going to write a script right now to delete all the comments from the database then re-run the comments migration.
