A seventeen-year old girl was lightly injured Thursday when Palestinian rockets struck the Israeli town of Ashkelon. Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is warning of a full-scale Israeli invasion of Gaza. In what could be a first for an Israeli official, Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai has threatened a “holocaust” in Gaza if rocket fire continues. Vilnai said: “The more Qassam fire intensifies and the rockets reach a longer range, [the Palestinians] will bring upon themselves a bigger holocaust because we will use all our might to defend ourselves.” An opinion poll taken this week shows 64 percent of Israelis favor a ceasefire with Hamas—the highest majority to date. Hamas has made several proposals for a truce but the Israeli government has rejected its overtures.

The absurdity of a member of an Israeli government using that word is not lost on me ethier.
Seems he did use it, though. Most of the media I googled seems to support it.
"The use of the Hebrew word for holocaust, "shoah", tends to be used exclusively in Israel to describe the Nazi persecution of Jews."
The crazies are given licence to bombard Isreal with rocket fire (45 in one day) and the Isreali's are the bad guys for shooting back. Militants hiding among civilians is not cricket and against the Geneva Accords.
Gaza had better stop the crazies or duck.

* The Palestinian people do not have a military, so the usual classification of civilian is not being used. Instead B'Tselem provides data on the number of Palestinians who did not participate in hostilities, a significantly more stringent qualification that the one used to identify Israeli civilians. We do not know how many of the Israelis listed as civilians participated in the hostilities. Many settlers who illegally have taken over parts of the West Bank (and used to live in parts of the Gaza Strip) are heavily armed and there have been numerous reports of their brutal attacks on their Palestinian neighbors.

Israelis Promise Second
'Holocaust' To Palestinians
By Rajai Masri
A Palestinian
3-1-8
The Israeli deputy Defense Minister issued a warning yesterday to the besieged Gazans that Israel is readied to deal the starved population of Gaza a "Holocaust," to only retract and exchange the wording name to delivering the besieged 1.5 million Gazans a devastating "Great Catastrophe." The Israeli Deputy Minister apparently suddenly wizened to the fatal flop of using the Exclusive Term "Holocaust," that the Zionists and the Israeli Juntas built on for more than six decades to extort world sympathy and prompt world Jewry to return to the only safe haven, an exclusivist "Jewish State" in Palestine.
The impending "Second Holocaust" promised the destitute 1.5 million Palestinians of Gaza would be the culmination of an on-going mini-Holocausts that saw the nearly daily killing of innocent Palestinians in Gaza and the west Bank of Jordan, the destruction of homes, the imprisonment without charge or indictment of more than 10,000 Palestinians, with a long list of mothers and children counting among the prisoners.
Israel is promising the destitute, hungered and dispossessed 1.5 million Gazans a "Second Holocaust." Israel is promising the Gazans whom 87.5% of their total population are classified living below poverty line, more house demolitions. Israel is promising the Gazans, nearly more than 85% of whom are refugees from the South of Palestine of 1948 who were chased and dispossessed by the marauding new Jewish immigrants to make homes for them to build a Jewish State, that is, as in the words of Haim Weisman, First President of Israel, Äs Jewish as England is English." Philosopher thinker Dr. Azmi Bishara rightly termed the second killing and disposing of these Palestinian refugees by the Jewish Armies, "Sociocide," rather than the more restrictive, narrow term "Genocide."
The last two days, the first Israeli foretaste of a "Second Holocaust" saw the indiscriminate mass killing by US Supplied F-16 fighter planes and Apache helicopters (the non-restrictive arsenal of the Israeli Defense Forces) of 40 Gazans and the wounding of several scores, more than one third (1/3) among the killed and wounded are children. Many destitute refugee families were left without shelter in the biting cold of winter as the F-16 and Apaches destroyed to the ground their modest homes.
The alleged reason for the Israeli war of "Sociocide" carried out systematically and almost daily against the Gazans and Palestinians in the West Bank since so many months, are the primitive rockets launched indiscriminately by the military Qassam faction of the Hamas group on nearby Sderot south of Israel. Hamas and other militant factions offered Israel indefinite truce to cease all acts of violence against Israel provided Israel ceases its unprovoked daily air and land raids to haunt in cold blood Palestinians and cause in their aftermath the killing of many innocent children, women and elderly, and the destruction of homes of a destitute population.
Fanatic Ahmedo Najad of Iran who allegedly called for the end of Israel needed not to expound his fanatic rhetoric on the basis of actual physical end of a the exclusivist Zionist state, extreme and unwelcome an outcry as that, for, the reality, historic and biblical, points out starkly that the once thought of moral and romantic purpose behind the creation of a "Jewish State" on the back of the indigenous Palestinian population has run its course and lost its originally intended objectives and meaning. Israel, the dream haven of the enlightened Jews of the discrimination. Israel of the underdog David transformed into a Goliath, turned into a curse against the World Jewry, a moral liability that is in stark variance to the moral purpose of all the Divine's universal messages to his vicegerents in this tiny Earth that we all humans are meant to share peacefully and justly.
As to the Hypocrite European and Western polity and certain interest and power centers, isn't it enough that the Original Holocaust caused by your dereliction of duties, apathy, indifference and, by some, flagrant complicity, FOR YOU, throw the burden on other totally innocent people, THE PALESTINIANS, and have them pay THRICE for your sins: 1) The perpetration of the "Original Holocaust;" 2) The exile and dispossessing of the innocent Palestinians, the complete uprooting of a whole population; and now, and since many years 3) The tacit and overt support of Israel's "Second Holocaust" on the dispossessed, impoverished and helpless refugees, "Should One Term It, Western Charity?"
The frustration and humiliation felt by the Arab masses before these blatant and flagrant acts of "Socioside" by Western backed Israel, and the impotence of the non-representative Arab polity, bodes ill to future dialogue between civilizations as collective memories recede, most unfortunately, to deep mistrust and widely shared misgivings. That, most sadly, bodes ill to World Peace and harmonious coexistence among the inhabitants of our tiny Earth.

Rule # 1: In the Middle East, it is always the Arabs that attack first, and it's always Israel that defends itself. This is called "Retaliation".
Rule # 2: The Arabs, whether Palestinians or Lebanese, are not allowed to kill Israelis, either soldiers or civilians. This is called "Terrorism".
Rule # 3: Israel has the right to kill Arab civilians, this is called "Self-Defense", or, if the dead Arabs are by the hundreds, "Collateral Damage".
Rule # 4: When Israel kills too many civilians. The Western world calls for restraint. This is called the "Reaction of the International Community".
Rule # 5: Palestinians and Lebanese do not have the right to capture Israeli military, not even a limited number, not even 1. This is called "Kidnapping".
Rule # 6: Israel has the right to capture as many Palestinians as they want (Palestinians: around 10000 to date, 300 of which are children, Lebanese: 1000 to date, being held without trial). There is no limit; there is no need for proof of guilt or trial. This is called "War on Terrorism".
Rule # 7: When you say "Hezbollah", always be sure to add "supported by Syria and Iran ". this is called: "Axis of Evil".
Rule # 8: When you say "Israel ", never say "supported by the USA, the UK and other European countries", for people (God forbid) might believe this is not an equal conflict. This is called "Helping our Friends".
Rule # 9: When it comes to Israel, don't mention the words "occupied territories", "UN resolutions"," Geneva conventions". This could distress the audience and is called "Anti-Semitism".
Rule # 10: Israelis speak better English than Arabs. This is why you let them speak out as much as possible, so that they can explain rules 1 through 9. This is called "Neutral Journalism".
Rule # 11: If you don't agree with these rules or if you favor the Arab side over the Israeli side, you must be a very dangerous anti-Semite. You may even have to make a public apology if you express your honest opinion like Mel Gibson. This is called "Democracy".

Jews for Justice in the Middle East
As the periodic bloodshed continues in the Middle East, the search for an equitable solution must come to grips with the root cause of the conflict. The conventional wisdom is that, even if both sides are at fault, the Palestinians are irrational "terrorists" who have no point of view worth listening to. Our position, however, is that the Palestinians have a real grievance: their homeland for over a thousand years was taken, without their consent and mostly by force, during the creation of the state of Israel. And all subsequent crimes - on both sides - inevitably follow from this original injustice.
This paper outlines the history of Palestine to show how this process occurred and what a moral solution to the region's problems should consist of. If you care about the people of the Middle East, Jewish and Arab, you owe it to yourself to read this account of the other side of the historical record.
Introduction
The standard Zionist position is that they showed up in Palestine in the late 19th century to reclaim their ancestral homeland. Jews bought land and started building up the Jewish community there. They were met with increasingly violent opposition from the Palestinian Arabs, presumably stemming from the Arabs' inherent anti-Semitism. The Zionists were then forced to defend themselves and, in one form or another, this same situation continues up to today.
The problem with this explanation is that it is simply not true, as the documentary evidence in this booklet will show. What really happened was that the Zionist movement, from the beginning, looked forward to a practically complete dispossession of the indigenous Arab population so that Israel could be a wholly Jewish state, or as much as was possible. Land bought by the Jewish National Fund was held in the name of the Jewish people and could never be sold or even leased back to Arabs (a situation which continues to the present).
The Arab community, as it became increasingly aware of the Zionists' intentions, strenuously opposed further Jewish immigration and land buying because it posed a real and imminent danger to the very existence of Arab society in Palestine. Because of this opposition, the entire Zionist project never could have been realized without the military backing of the British. The vast majority of the population of Palestine, by the way, had been Arabic since the seventh century A.D. (Over 1200 years)
In short, Zionism was based on a faulty, colonialist world view that the rights of the indigenous inhabitants didn't matter. The Arabs' opposition to Zionism wasn't based on anti-Semitism but rather on a totally reasonable fear of the dispossession of their people.
One further point: being Jewish ourselves, the position we present here is critical of Zionism but is in no way anti-Semitic. We do not believe that the Jews acted worse than any other group might have acted in their situation. The Zionists (who were a distinct minority of the Jewish people until after WWII) had an understandable desire to establish a place where Jews could be masters of their own fate, given the bleak history of Jewish oppression. Especially as the danger to European Jewry crystalized in the late 1930's and after, the actions of the Zionists were propelled by real desperation.
But so were the actions of the Arabs. The mythic "land without people for a people without land" was already home to 700,000 Palestinians in 1919. This is the root of the problem, as we shall see.

Criminal Code of Canada
Sections 318 and 319 of the Criminal Code make it a criminal offence to:
* advocate genocide
* publicly incite hatred
* wilfully promote hatred against an "identifiable group."
An identifiable group is defined as any section of the public distinguished by:
* colour
* race
* religion
* ethnic origin
For example, "advocating genocide" includes publicly arguing that members of an identifiable group should be killed.
The openly declared Palestinian position, especially Hamas, is declared genocide.
It is sad that the Criminal Code provisons are not more equitably applied.
The openly declared Palestinian position, especially Hamas, is declared genocide.
