Their book is an eyebrow-raiser, portraying a future that's aroundthe corner as oil production is projected to hit a peak and startdeclining around 2012. In adapting to peak oil, the way we moveourselves and domestic and international freight will change asdram atically as when the horse and buggy gave way to the car.

 Vehicles gradually will be replaced by Personal Rapid Transports --one- to six-person cars, linked to overhead power grids, that movealong streets in designated guideways. More LRTs and subway systemswill be needed. Air travel will again become a preserve of the rich.

Railways will be reconfigured to run on electricity.

"Electricity is the ideal transport fuel for an uncertain future."

Meanwhile, the internal combustion engine, powered by gasoline thatwill be unaffordable even if it's available, will go the way of the dodo...

    Well, I don't agree about the minivans, modern man's version of the family wagon cart. We will always need the concept of a minivan, even if it has to be hydrogen or electrically powered.
