PREMIER CAMPBELL OPENS BC TRADE OFFICE IN KOREA

SEOUL – British Columbia’s economic connection to Korea was strengthened today as Premier Gordon Campbell officially opened B.C.’s trade and investment office in Korea and announced Mr. Kyung Suk Kim of Ocean Blue Marketline Inc. as the province’s trade and investment representative in Korea.
“B.C. exports to Korea are estimated to grow by $15.4 billion by 2020 and this trade office will help connect British Columbia and Korean business and investors,” said Premier Campbell. “Our Asian market representatives engage businesses and investors to promote B.C.’s competitive advantage as Canada’s Pacific Gateway and the opportunities here for partnerships in trade, investment and the exchange of world-class knowledge.”
The trade office, which will open to the public June 1, 2008,represents B.C.’s commitment to strengthening long-term relationships with Korea and positioning B.C. as North America’s Asia Pacific Gateway for trade, investment, culture and knowledge exchange.
“We welcome Mr. Kim and look forward to his strong advocacy for B.C. interests in Korea,” said Economic Development Minister Colin Hansen. “B.C. is home to world-leading innovative companies and our office in Seoul will position B.C. to realize opportunities in our knowledge-based industries and traditional sectors.”
Located at the Gangnam Finance Centre, in one of Seoul’s most important technology and financial business districts, the B.C. office will help promote trade and investment in B.C.’s priority sectors, including, but not limited to: information communications technology, wireless, digital new media, power technologies, life sciences, and environmental technology and services sectors.
“I look forward to helping B.C. companies succeed in the Korean market and invite B.C. companies to seriously consider the tremendous opportunities offered by the vibrant and growing Korean market,” said Mr. Kim.
The Seoul trade and investment office is B.C.’s third international representative office in the Asia Pacific. B.C. has already established representative offices in Tokyo, Japan and Shanghai, China.
