The Second Coming Of Peter Lougheed

Posted on Tuesday, September 02 at 12:08 by NAUWATCH

It's been more than 20 years since Peter Lougheed stepped down as premier of Alberta. A whole generation has been born and grown up since he disappeared from the headlines. He's no longer the guardian of Alberta's riches against the depredations of the federal government, no longer the voice of the new West going toe to toe with Pierre Trudeau, no longer the man sought by Progressive Conservatives across the country to head the party--"the best leader we never had" is what older Tories still say.

Lets hear it for the creep who put money away for a rainy day (heritage trust fund) rather than pay the current bills, this brought about the dissolution of most of the provincial public sector corporations and unions. He knuckled under when the US prez called us "blue eyed sheiks". He called down Trudeau rather than siding with him and thereby furthered the US takeover of Canada. Yes, lets hear it for this trilateral piece of crap!

The North American Forum was held in Banff in September of 2006 and was co-chaired by former Alberta premier Peter Lougheed.
