Experts here say the tempest in the electoral teapot widely known as NAFTAgate has long since blown over since it first reared its ugly head in February, and is now barely remembered by the majority of American decision-makers.
"I think, quite frankly, it resonated much stronger up in Canada than it ever did down here," said Chris Berardini, chief of staff to Republican representative Henry Brown. "It was just a blip on the radar screen down here."
The affair started during the presidential primaries, when presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both said publicly they were in favour of reopening the North American Free Trade Agreement.
