I think Harper is a coward. I am so mad right now. He knew he'd lose, so he decided to buy himself time (after delaying the vote by a week to do the same), and we know that during that time he will be focusing on pumping out a massive amount of propaganda to sway the public to Harper's side.

I just hope to hell our Canadian economy can sail through the stormy seas of the current economy without anyone at the rudder for the next 6 weeks.

Thousands of layoffs being accounced weekly, and not a thing to do about it. Even the central job maker, the oil patch, are also laying off in large numbers and construction grinding to a halt. I find it amazing that partisan politics has won today. Proof that our democracy has further eroded right before our eyes. Supported by the ignorant with such aggressivness it is frightening.

I agree with sthompson, Harper is a coward.

This is also a major precedent as I understand it--now, any PM who wants to escape a confidence vote can go to the GG and do the same.

I can pretty much guarantee a PQ Marois majority government which will "justify" a PCC vote. Sick indeed this bully.

I am most disappointed by the GG letting Harper getting away with this prorogation without any caveat whatsoever. Down this bogus mornarchy (&Senate) as far as I am concerned.

Yeah, why no conditions at least?

I also find it sickening that Harper was ready to stick a crowbar in the country and pry it apart to save himself. The reality is that it's his own and his party's rhetoric that is reigniting the sovereigntist cause, because he has essentially burned bridges to appeal to his base and their essential prejudice against Francophones. That involved a lot of mischaracterization of the coalition (I watched the Transport Minister lie on TV just this morning, saying that the Bloc would sit on the government side of the House, which they wouldn't have, and the reporters had to state that to correct it). In Harper's fight to survive there was a lot of blasting of Quebec and the Bloc. If Harper really cared about national unity, he wouldn't have slapped Quebec in the face. He's the PM--you'd expect more.

I am just massively disappointed, and angry. We as Canadians need to get mobilized now and do something ourselves. But what?

Pro-Rogue or Pro-Democracy, that was the question yesterday. Today we have our answer. When a Prime Minister can suspend parliament in order to avoid a particular vote by the elected member of parliament and does so just a few weeks into a parliamentary session, then we are on the verge of a dictatorship. My concern and dismay at this action is further added to by the fact that the election that again gave Mr Harper a MINORITY government that was called in violation of his own legislation, on the excuse that the previous session was ?dysfunctional?, but was in fact made so by the conservatives almost daily attack upon parliamentary procedures and traditions.

Can we trust PMSH to recall the house in January or will he ?extend? the suspension in order to further advance his agenda without opposition? Given his past performance I would suggest we cannot.

    Canadian Democracy RIP.

No one should be surprised that the GG made this ruling - she is, after all, Canada's version of the New World Order Flunky. If she had permitted the Opposition Parties to do their job, as they are supposed to do, that would have meant we are living in a genuine democracy, not a bogus one.

And with all due respect, shouldn't the GG, as a figurehead, be making vital decisions on which shoes match which dress, instead of making decisions on issues involving the running of the Goverernment. What exactly are her qualifications to make such a decision? Or is she just another flunky being told what to do in order so she doesn't lose out on her expensive lifestyle, courtesy of the taxpayers?

    GG = Globalist Garbage

An MP's primary purpose is to represent his constituents. I say it's a big failure to do anything that would contravene this duty, which as polls show are overwhelmingly the case.

The coalition is undemocratic in spirit because these politicians are making a power-hungry grab for power, with no respect to the people. They never asked the people, they never consulted the people. They care only for themselves, their careers and their bruised egos from losing the last election. Their motivations alone should prevent you from supporting them. Their official reasons are so lame, no-one is stupid enough to believe it, and this will be proven when the next tabled budget will address their concerns and they will still vote against it. Why? Because they don't care for the people. If they do, then they would have asked them in the first place.

hey alyoung, you wanna come up with a different comment instead of copying and pasting the exact same one to multiple threads? You already posted this to the article on what we do next and protests. If it happens again I'll delete the comment due to our rules re redundancy.

Firstly, on a decision the magnitude of which might well be determining the fate of this nation, the conversation between the PM and the GG SHOULD NOT be privileged. Canadians are entitled to know the details and terms that were discussed. For instance, did the PM bully the GG? Or is the GG an airhead, who only wants to cut ribbons and throw parties? Or was there an indepth weighing of pros and cons. It could well be the latter, as the PM spend two hours in Rideau Hall. But, as many commentators said this morning, we'll never know. Perhaps (if the dialogue was recorded) someone might slip a copy to the media, in the name of patriotism of course..........

In the meantime, PM Harper has managed to exhibit all the traits of the Tinman, the Lion, and the Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz. He lacks a heart, courage, and a brain...........

    Oz of course, is Ottawa.
