The Strange Case Of Stephen Harper And Michael Ignatieff

Posted on Tuesday, December 30 at 08:09 by NAUWATCH

One month from now, the fate of Stephen Harper's government will be determined by a one person electorate consisting of Michael Ignatieff.

There are three possible assumptions Harper can make about how he is doing as he campaigns for this all important vote: he can assume that nothing he can do will win the vote; he can conclude that he has won the vote already and that he is in no danger of losing it; or he can think that the vote is still his to win or lose.

The greatest danger is that if Harper loses and forces on new elections, the sympathy vote will give him a majority and then it will be Goodbye Canada. He almost made it the last time.

Apart from his impressive academic achievements, what has Ignatieff to offer ?

Or either of them for that matter.

People with academic education and no practical life experience are the greatest dangers in any society, existing on and pushing harebrained theories and philosophies without any comprehension of their physical effects.

The first time I've noticed this was in the post war refugee camps. They were dirty, their children neglected and all they could yak about were theories and how good they used to have it before.

On the other hand the quarters of trades people were usually clean, their children fed a bit of extra from the blackmarkets in trade for some service. That was when I decided that no matter how much paper education I may receive , one day I'll also learn a trade.

The opportunity came in Vancouver, when I was 28 and it opened a whole new world for me and family.

I would like to know, how much do either of these "leaders" know and what they can really do ? Apart from blowing endless amounts of hot air.

    Ed Deak.

Actually Ed, his career seems to closely parallel yours, but in reverse. ;) He started in BC, then went to Cambridge and the London School of Economics.

On International affairs, he seems to be several floors above Harper or Dion.

Same with his real world experience. Has Harper ever even been in an a war zone?

I think I actually prefer Harper to Ignatieff-at least Harper has spent most of his life in Canada-and was nominally elected.

However, to ease Ed's fears, I don't think the sympathy vote is nearly as substancial as he may think. It's Quebec that kept Harper from the majority, and they don't look likely to change. Elsewhere in ontario there were big surprises, I always didn't vote or voted for independants because the liberal member always won in a cakewalk. This time the conservative won by 48 votes. I think a lot of people wanted to 'send a message' but didn't think THIS would happen. Most liberals I know either really hated Dion or didn't like the environmental plan-but both of those are gone.

Whether Harper or Ignatieff wins, doesn`t matter. Both of these clowns are puppets of the mega-gazillionaires who are really running things across the planet. Same goes for Layton.

The Harper/Ignatieff "team" will function in a manner similar to a Harper majority -- but without the "over the top" recidivism (you know - wimmin should be kept barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen kind of thing)
