I can see why their petition only shows SOME comments. Let's see, while going to school the RCMP pays YOU $2000 a month. As soon as you are hired you get a full benefits package, and earn $46,000 per year. Within three years you will be earning $76,000 per year. After five years you get a full MONTH of holiday. After 25 years you get a FULL pension (go at 20 and you can retire at 45).
There is no doubt that often the job is dangerous but its less so when when organized properly (don't cavalierly walk onto the rural property os somebody who is known to be crazy and owns multiple weapons). The number of RCMP officers killed in the line of duty is nowhere NEAR the number of construction workers killed every year. Three hundred teens die every year in Canada from on the job work. There are lots of people with more dangerous jobs than the RCMP who don't make anywhere near $46 grand, let alone 76 grand. There are SOME jobs with the RCMP that definitely deserve debate on their compensation, but in general, there are LOTS of RCMP that sit at desks, administer, collect data-and worse-make bad decisions that affect the force and our country.
In other words, perhaps I'll be a little more sympathetic when the RCMP straightens out its tazer policies and gets a little more vocal on social problems that lead to the necessity of having the RCMP. I know that its often the case that officers themselves are not responsible for the bad policies of their superiors, but that doesn't make them free and clear.
Well as you know I am involved in working with injured workers and while looking into these vile bad faith Workers Compensation Boards I have found that retired RCMP get hire by these Boards.
Take WorksafeBC Mark Evans is manager of Corporate Security at WorkSafeBC. He is a certified controls specialist, forensic investigator, and fraud examiner.
Mark has 27 years? RCMP experience in covert operations, drugs, organized crime, and major crimes. Really a former RCMP office involved in one of the most vile bad faith Government Boards in Canada! Must be hard up for a few extra bucks .
To give the individual members of the RCMP some credit, I think the quality of those selected is suspect, and the training they receive is also suspect -- mainly due to political manipulations regarding funding, training, etc.
It is my opinion that the mandarins have seized upon such devices as the taser as a way of cutting back on things like unarmed combat techniques, as well as consistently lowering the psychological standards for those wanting to become RCMP members, in order to 'bulk up' the numbers.
