With 2/3 of the present American economy driven by consumer spending, it is little wonder that former president, G.W. Bush told America to keep spending immediately after 911.
B.H.O. faces the same challenge -- except that, to "remake America", American MUST learn to spend less, and make do with less. That is conundrum number one, and makes the former "big programs" mentioned in the news article, pale by comparison. After all, integrating the armed forces, and establishing Medicare and Social Security, did not require a significant change of lifestyle among the general populace.
But how does one tell America to quit shopping at WalMart? Or tell Walmart to quit buying from China? Or in fact, tell Americans that, if they want to buy from WalMart, it will have to be American goods on the shelves, made by Americans, and for virtual "slaves wages"?
Anything else would just mean "more of the same" -- and more of the same isn't a transformation.
