Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan will be ordered to attack opium traffickers and drug facilities when there is proof of direct links to the Taliban, CBC News has learned.
The new order follows a heated debate among NATO allies over whether the attacks could be declared war crimes.
Defence Minister Peter MacKay told CBC News soldiers would indeed target drug traffickers and their production facilities.

I received a letter from one of Canada's soldiers serving in Afghanistan not too long ago, and to make it brief, he said that they got along quite well with the local farmers, as long as they did not threaten the crops. The local Afghan army troops however, burned the crops because that;s what the Americans evidently wanted done, and they got the hell kicked out of them.......
And we can't deal with drug addictions and violence against women here. (To say nothing of an "enlightened" religious priesthood with a history of butt fucking little boys, and molesting little girls.) And spend some time talking to Natives, to get some understanding about our ability and willingness to deal with poverty here.
Get the hell out of Afghanistan, and give those poor folks some "peace room" in which to come to grips with and deal with their own problems, uninterfered with and unmolested by other's Empire ambitions masked as concern about "democracy". Sheer and utter pig swill.
