Why Is The Canadian Government So Intent On Deporting War Resisters?

Posted on Monday, March 02 at 22:57 by NAUWATCH

Canadians overwhelmingly support allowing U.S. war resisters asylum. So why doesn't their government?

America's neighbor to the north is erecting barriers to Iraq War resisters seeking asylum.

For much the same reasons as this, NAUWATCH:

Inmates actually LIKE the prison farm rehabilitation programs, so naturally Harper will close them down, as he thinks chain gangs would be more appropos, good "Christian" that he is.
Same as his "war on drugs". Disregarding the failure of the effectiveness of punitive sentences for drug use in the US, Harper is instituting "get tough laws" to fight the recent string of gang-style shootings, especially in BC. I have little doubt that this is a precursor to the setting up of for-profit prisions in Canada, which need a continual stream of "fodder" to ensure profitable bottom lines....
Similarly with asylum seekers, I can imagine that Harper would as soon see them shot......

    Why?

    Serving the US Empire cause.

I see the World Court has issued a war crimes warrant for the leader of Sudan, for crimes in Darfur. Which I will take more seriously on the day I see a war crimes warrant being issued for the Bush/Cheney US Empire cabal.

Until then, it is ALL just so much more serving the US Empire cause, with the US being upset because it is the Chinese getting the region's oil instead of themselves. (Otherwise, they'd say nary a goddamn word, and we should know it, or they'd say the Sudanese were combating Darfurian terrorism.) And which doesn't excuse growing Chinese capitalism's imperialism either.

It all much depends on whose ox is being gored, doesn't it?

    Fighting for Democracy, my ass.

It's almost like there's only so much democracy to go around. So if we're "fighting for democracy over there", that means we have to lose some over here.............

RickW, I believe you are referring to the prison industrial complex. I will say this, The War On Drugs is a fraud and much like the war on terrorism, it is a war on our freedoms.
