By James Laxer
Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff would like Canadians to see him as the next Pierre Trudeau, a man of wisdom and learning who has returned to his native land after decades abroad to play the role of the Lawgiver, the Lycurgus or the Solon of our age. The day Ignatieff announced that his party would vote in favour of the Harper government's budget in January, he cut his ties with the coalition Stephane Dion had forged with the NDP, and proclaimed that he had been a Liberal all his life.

The Conservatives are going personal on Michael Ignatieff as they try to boost slumping poll numbers at the expense of the Liberal leader.

Ignatieff says coalition would have divided Canadians

Canucks are all ready divided in reality. What's the difference between a Con/Lib coalition, and an NDP/Lib/Bloc coalition.........?
One thing we can't blame on him is his five years at Harvard . It's almost a tradition there that (not coincidentally , I think ) some of the best professors are Canadians . At the business school Canadian John MacArthur from Vancouver , B.C. was an impressive and much respected dean for over 10 years . He's remained as Canadian as good maple syrup and still says "shedule" and not 'skedule". Hope Iggy is the same kind of guy . Let's leave him the benefit of the doubt for a (short) while.
Good point. Rick.
The LIBS will probably win the next election, the CONS will get rid of Harper, but will anything really change. NOPE.
So is this the kind people we want in power ? No thank you, I have been abuse and ignored by this party. Please keep in mind that all political parties work in similar ways, they use the power we entrust in them to set in place regulations that abuse. It is time we all turned away from this political system.

Refusing to stick one's fingers into moving fan blades isn't cowardice, but good sense. Likewise with not voting NDP.
As for Brent's opinion of Ignatieff...
"More of a yank wannabe who wants to make us all into yanks."
Well, you certainly presented the argument more concisely than Laxer. Although I'm not sure you can match Laxer's passionate hatred of America and all its works (or his equally passionate love of state ownership).
I don't want to be a "yank". But I don't want to be an "anti-yank" either. We should neither blindly accept nor blindly reject an idea simply because it comes from our southern neighbour. There's a lot they can learn from us, but the reverse is true too.

So, you support a decining voter turnout? Voting for either Libs or Cons is sticking one's fingers into moving fan blades as well.........
