The Cops Came And Took My Gun

A pounding at the door the other morning; my windows rattled. I was upstairs at work. I don't always leave my desk to hear the good news about Jehovah.

The pounder was insistent. I went down, if only for the sake of the windows.

Oh, jeeze, the cops.

Officers Firth and Kozar in attendance. "What's up, boys?" My preference was to talk to them through the plate glass door. They wanted to come inside.

Not a chance.

I stepped onto the porch. Who wants two armed strangers in his house, and anyway it was a nice morning.

Officer K. said, "Are you aware of Project Safe City?" I hate it when a guy answers a question with a question.

"Why do you want to know?"

Officer K. said, "We have reason to believe you have a firearm." Oh, here we go again.

The last time a representative of the city showed up at my door, she had reason to believe I had a cat. How did she know? The lady cat cop peered through the window at my curtains and said, "Cat hair."

I dislike being spied on.

I also dislike armed men at the door. And then Officer K. mispronounced my name and asked if I still worked for this newspaper.

Hmm. He'd clearly done some research on me, and I had none on him, nor was I sure why my place of employment was important.

NEVER EVER surrender your guns! I`d say this story is an ominous sign.

They told me that any gun with a trigger lock on is considered safely and legally stored, if it is buried on privately owned property. You can make a good gun storage safe with black ABS pipes and caps. Spray the inside with wd40 , CRC or fluid film and you have totally displaced the moisture ,so it will not rust, and it doesn't take a lot of clean up to use it again.
One way to protest the over reaction to guns, is to cut out a dark wood grain mac tac profile of a rifle, shotgun and a gun rack, and stick them to the back window of your pickup truck. Nothing illegal about that , and when they over react, they will make total fools of themselves, over and over again, until they chill out a bit, and people get used to it.
Pass this on to all your shootin friends . Maybe it will spread across the country.

Come to think of it, I just received a renewal notice myself and better get on with it before a swat team surrounds my house.

I thought this licencing nonsense was over. Hasn't Parliament voted to get rid of it ?

No, I ain't no gun lover, but as a rancher, living in the backwoods, I have gun to make noise to scare away the predators. No fun to find a dead cow with the body of a calf halfway out, but the head chewed off.

Besides, we don't get too many home invasions out here, because the crooks know that people have dogs and guns and know how to use them .

Well, the problem is, they won`t chill out a bit, they're testing the waters to see what they can get away with and see how much more they can scare people into submission.

I'm no fan of the gun lovers, but the registry has been a big failure even here in Canada and we, out here on ranches etc. must have them. look at my guns the same way as I'm looking at any other tools. We don't know too many people around here who had their guns registered and the official estimate is 7 million unregistered in Canada.

There are shootings all over, all the time. Are they using registered guns ? Like hell.

As far the confiscation of guns is concerned, we have 120 acres of forests.

The house of Commons voted 167 to 134 to scrap the gun registry, with the help of many rural NDP members. I phoned them up, and was told that committies are allowed a maximum of 60 sitting days before it goes to the senate, where it will pass quickly , then go back to the commons for final reading. The commitees used 23 sitting days, before the house was prorogued, putting it on hold. Now they have to use up the rest. Hopefully it will be scrapped by mid summer. If not , King Harper loses all credibility on the issue, and rural voters lose all reason to vote or campaign for him.
The amnesty has killed any reliabilty for the registry , not that it had any to begin with, but I suggested they scrap whats left of the database on long guns, so any future government has to tell the public that if they want to resurect it , it will cost two billion dollars , starting from scratch , just like last time, and be no more useful.
The economic crunch is a good time to scrap it, politically.

You are under no obligation to open the door or acknowledge their presense.

If you open the door , then try to close it again, that is obstruction of justice, If you refuse to open the door in the first place , you are breaking no laws. You have the right to remain silent at all times . Use it. You have the right to challenge any search warrant in court.Use it. You have the right to sue them for violations of your charter rights and put liens on their bank accounts, wages , pensions etc and personal property. Use it, or Ignore them completely.
