Mulroney Says Perimeter Deal With U.S. Good For Canada

Former prime minister Brian Mulroney says he believes a new security perimeter arrangement with the U.S. represents no threat to sovereignty but does offer a necessary insurance policy for the Canadian economy.

Mulroney, who negotiated the Free Trade Agreement with the United States, said Tuesday the heightened tension over security as a result of the 9-11 terrorist attacks threatens the free flow of goods across the border, putting at risk a key pillar of the economy.

"I think it's a good idea and I think it's getting closer," he said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

The free trade deal and the subsequent North American Free Trade Agreement that added Mexico to the liberalized trade zone was aimed at removing tariffs from a wide swath of goods exchanged between the three countries.

If Mulroney endorses it , it has to be a disaster waiting to happen.

Ditto, Ed. Why is Mulroney even being quoted? Slow news day?

Naturally Mulroney will spout lies. He's the one that sold Canada out in 1984- he's the architect of the decline of Canada, and what the hell does Mulroney know about Canadian sovereignty anyway? And he is Canada's representative on the Trilateral Commission?

Maybe someone just gave him an envelope of cash to say what he did. What a joke this man is!

Put your text inside two boxed in quotes. My example has spaces in it so that you will be able to see it [ quote] text here[ /quote] So take the spaces out of the quote boxes and you will have it.

Thanks Milton, but it doesn't work for me.... Exactly which keys are you using and in what sequence ? I've tried the keys shown in your example on previous posts, but nothing happens.

Kenmore.....I don't think anybody can beat the present damage done by the Harper gang. If they ever get a majority, we can kiss Canada goodbye.

I highlight your comment (above), right click on the mouse, then carry it over and paste in "reply", where I highlight it once again and left click on "quote".

Regarding your comment though, I watched the Royal Canadian Air Farce last night, and there was one skit that showed Iggy and Harper Cooperating to "dispose" of Layton. Perhaps more truth to that than not - in which case, we are already kissing Canada goodbye.

Sorry Rick, but the only way I know how to highlight is with the letters a and C and when I do it the whole page highlights. Don't seem to be able to select a certain sentence.

    Cheers, Ed

Nobody agrees with you more my friend. harper is only surviving because of the opposition parties. Long gone are the days of the true politician who had Canada's interests at heart. Politicians to-day are in it for the money and interested in how they can leave with full pockets.

    Mulroney is anything but poor.

He is a major shareholder of Barrick Gold and a Director since 1993. George Bush Sr. was also, and that is likely where "NAFTA" was originally created. Barrick, the largest gold company in the world was created by Saudi Royal money. Remember Calgary "Bre-x Minerals" . very few know that Barrick was a 51% shareholder of Bre-x, Remember the scandal that brought down the price of gold to it's knees, at $260/oz where Barrick bought up gold mining companies like a child at a candy store.

All it took was a little shove to one poor sole out the door of a helicopter.

Check the price of gold lately? they own it all....and even you by your corporate acceptance.

Isn't it time to reassemble a real government and take back our sovereignty?
