That situation of necessity "resulted from the unbridled distribution of modified genes that constitutes a clear and present danger for the well-being of others, in the sense that it could be the source of contamination and unwanted pollution," it said.

Laws don't normaly tell one what they "can" do but what they "can't"do. Perhaps there is no law against growing the crops but none supporting it either. The French Judge evidently feels there should be a law against. Maybe those in the EU will once again rehash the pro's and con's of GM crops.
The Europeans are mandating buffer zones between GM crops and non-GM crops. Some US states are doing the same. US wheat growers put an end to Monsantos plans to take over the wheat business there because nobody would then buy their wheat exports. Roundup is killing the soil in many places it is used and just about the only thing that will grow there now is roundup ready seeds.
We are going to see the pollution of our food stocks in our lifetime. It's bad enough we pollute our air, soil and oceans at the rate we do, but now for no good reason we are going to do it to our food stocks. GM backers say it will help cure hunger etc. I call BS. There is more than enough food in this world, but the will to get it to those that need it at prices they can afford is not. We in N.America throw away so much perfectly good food it boggles the mind. For instance, I was in the Real Canadian Superstore today and in the produce department they were throwing out apples that had "imperfections" on them. I asked if I could take them for free since they were going to toss them, and of course they said they would have to charge me full price. What really gets me is that most food stores don't even compost or cycle the food to the local farms for feed!

If there was ever a time for Canadians to become pushy - now is the time - for time is running out on this nation called Canada.
