Rushing To Armageddon

Among the topics covered are why the so-called U.S. missile "defence" system is really about establishing a U.S. first-strike-from-space capability; why both Paul Martin's government and Stephen Harper's Conservatives want to join in George W. Bush's dangerous program; how numerous official U.S. documents reveal their plans to "dominate space" and place deadly lasers and nuclear weapons in space; how today's nuclear weapons are up to 350 times more powerful than the bombs that devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki; how the missile "defence" plans will mean the placement of missiles on Canadian soil making Canada much less secure.

Hurtig provides remarkable and often devastating new information that will shock, anger, and appall readers. This is a book that every Canadian must read before Ottawa becomes an active partner in a tragic and potentially cataclysmic blunder.

Canada needs missile defence. Is anyone stupid enough to believe that if the terrorists who flew into the World Trade Center, or any of their 350 million supporters in half a dozen countries, managed to gain control of a nuclear missile launch system that they wouldn't use it? Perhaps there are stupid people who believe that if the U.S. were wiped out then there would be 'peace on earth' but the reality is that it would be the kind of peace enjoyed by people living in police states, enforced with murder, torture and starvation - a socialist peace.

What part of "IT DOESN"T WORK' don't you get ?

Read the articles the Pentagon puts out, and you will see they are not giving true facts about the test results.

Repeat after me. The USA is not the only free nation in the world. The USA is not the only bastion of democracy. The USA is not the only country that is opposed to human rights violations.
The USA accounts for over half of global weapons exports. The USA has a long history of protecting their own interests without regard for the sovereignty of foreign nations. The USA routinely tortures civilians.

---
Jesse
Missile defense is a joke and a boon to the international arms race! The terrorists will find a way to attack no matter what the USA does. Do you think they`ll use jets as a mode of attack next time? Of course not! The best way to stop terrorism is for the USA to halt their imperialist activities and let other countries democratically elect their own governments, even if they are left of centre! And another good way to stop terrorism is to let sovereign nations control their own resources and affairs. The only way western nations should intervene is in the form of foreign aid and co-operation whereby the nation in need and its people have a deal where they feel totally in control of their own destiny! Various past US administrations caused all of this terrorism through their foreign policies!

The U.S. should try condoms instead of missiles.

They're a much cheaper prophylactic than missles.

    Guess what?
The terrorists who flew into the WTC are ALREADY DEAD!

Yah but the guys who funded and organized them are not...they hold all the power and it isn't a BMD system we need to stop them, it is freedom, sovereignty and honest politicians that will fix the agenda!

The only socialist governments that exist in this world now or have existed in the past have all been democratically elected and all of these are in fact peaceful states. You seem to be confused by what is meant by dictatorship and socialism.

Also, if capitalism is supposed to lead to peace, it sure hasn't worked over the last 300 years since the Americans, those bastions of capitalism (greed), came on the scene. It sure hasn't led to peace with their interference in other countries' affairs throught the CIA over the last 50 years. In fact, fragile democracies were and are being ruined by the CIA.

Any thinking person can see that no terrorist threat (nuclear or otherwise) is going to subverted by a missile defense shield because such an attack simply will not be launched in a manner that will be protected by such. On the other hand, even talk of such a shield is causing the Russians and Chinese to pursue programs for weapons in space, thus exacerbating the cold war that is supposedly over but not really (we're just pretending about that). As well, even if the Americans don't actually put weapons in space, the idea is clearly that America will be protected and thus allow them to freely threaten anyone else if they don't do as they are told.

Your comments are clearly short-sighted and those of a person who is uninformed. You should understand that being informed does not mean reading your local paper, most of which have a clear right-wing bias as they are owned by corporations. What this means it that you actually have to go outside of these sources and read books to be properly informed.
