I've come to pretty much the same conclusion that the motives for invading Haiti and overthrowing it's democratically elected government has to do only with showing to the world what can happen if you stick it to the ruling establishment and allow the people to run a nation. The idea is to 'convince' other nations that the cost of independence is not worth it. They are in effect, trying to put down what can grow into a global rebellion before it gets out of hand. No country is allowed to prosper unless first given permission by its back door rulers to do so, and of course provided that the appropriate fees are paid for the privilege.
