Canadian "Human Rights" Group Champions Cause Of Haiti's Elite

A couple of days after René Préval’s victory in Haiti’s recent presidential elections, the group, which supposedly has a mandate to promote human rights and democracy around the world, issued a statement (re-posted on left-wing website rabble.ca) that said Préval “must... form a government of national reconciliation.”

Strange words for a group that made no similar demand of Steven Harper, Canada’s Prime Minister. Harper’s Conservative Party won a minority government with less than 40% of the vote in Canada’s federal elections in January.

What is going on in Haiti leaves me with a feeling of hopelessness. Why did the elites decide to punish an already paralysed nation? In other places (Iraq, Afghanistan) where the numbers are being skewed ideology is used to cover up theft but, in Haiti its seems like its strictly ideologically driven with nothing to be gained but, spreading the neo-liberal “scripture”.

"in Haiti its seems like its strictly ideologically driven with nothing to be gained but, spreading the neo-liberal 'scripture'."

I've come to pretty much the same conclusion that the motives for invading Haiti and overthrowing it's democratically elected government has to do only with showing to the world what can happen if you stick it to the ruling establishment and allow the people to run a nation. The idea is to 'convince' other nations that the cost of independence is not worth it. They are in effect, trying to put down what can grow into a global rebellion before it gets out of hand. No country is allowed to prosper unless first given permission by its back door rulers to do so, and of course provided that the appropriate fees are paid for the privilege.
