UN Official Calls For No More G8 Summits

Posted on Saturday, June 09 at 11:26 by Diogenes
The UN representative insisted the G8 countries eliminate farming subsidies, a demand that the world’s poorer nations have been raising for years, though they have failed to get a positive response from their wealthier counterparts. The Alternative Summit was organized by a wide range of environmental and social justice organizations, including Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, ActionAid, Christian Aid, and Oxfam International. Those who spoke at the Alternative Summit came from as many as 40 countries. The first day of protest this week saw more than 1,000 demonstrators wounded when police cracked down on the protests. But organizers described their summit as a great success. http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/06/08/1741/print/ [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on June 11, 2007]

A world for the rich and their elite club. These meetings will continue behind closed doors regardless of what those meetings are called. We even have a different definition when Canada, the US and Mexico get together. It's a means to use the poor by the rich under any pretense. Then there is the "World Bank".
