Lockheed Martin Census Deal Finalized!

Posted on Sunday, October 10 at 00:00 by whelan costen
While Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. won an open competition for the work, some peace groups and opposition politicians are concerned about taxpayer dollars going to a weapons-builder. "There's a moral issue, I believe, in having an arms manufacturing industry . . do our census data collection among citizens who are very diverse and also have relatives . . abroad who could be hurt from the actual products they use," New Democrat MP Brian Masse said in an interview from his home in Windsor, Ont. "We're concerned about Lockheed Martin's advocacy of the Star Wars program of missile defence," said Darrell Rankin, an organizer with the No War Coalition in Manitoba. http://www.mytelus.com/news/article.do?pageID=news_home&articleID=1733015

I can't believe they actually went through with this. It's really sad--the government would actually prefer to take the heat from their own citizens instead of being sued by Lockheed under Nafta.
Well, there's only one answer to this. We have to make the 2006 census so painful for them, that they'll never, ever do anything like this again.
And to think, we're the type of people who support the government! I think things will be really bad out here in BC. People are so individualistic that they don't like doing the census anyway (and that's the right-wing folks). Add the lefties to it, and the privacy-advocates and you have the makings of a disaster.
I have no qualms about fighting this to the end. After all, its not Statistics Canada we're going up against but NAFTA and the American War Machine. Just be polite when the Stat Can people call--they're just doing job...

---
If you don't like these ideas, I've got others. --Marshall McLuhan

We did warn them didn't we? I agree Action, it's now time to to start writing letters to our local papers to encourange the boycott. This has given me a new breath of really, really, angry and I ain't goin to take this any more. RAAAGHH!

Why is Canada paying someone else to kill innocent people around the world for us? Because indirectly that is what we are doing. I feel as though the citizens of the world are being held prisoners while the world leaders and corporations are free to committ any crime they choose and get away with it.

I'm going to boycott the census. There's no doubt about it in my mind. Just remember to send in a form that says "I will not support a corporation that kills and maims for profit" or something to that effect.

The only effective campaign we can mount is a widespread boycott. And so that they don't blame the small response on the new technologies, we need to send in spoiled census forms....

More to the point, do you have any idea how much money Lockheed Martin is going to "earn" through NMD, BMD, or whatever you want to call it ??

This is a disgrace by any standards !!

Here is a copy of my letter, I encourage others to speak out today!

    Dear Prime Minister Martin
The people of Canada who are knowlegeable about this issue, have spoken out to reject this idea of having Lockheed Martin involved in our Canadian Census, in any way. We do not appreciate our money funding a weapons manufacturer, nor do we wish to align ourselves with their BMD program. We do believe that our security is at risk by doing so and we ask that our government, who acts on our behalf, reject this contract immediately. We do not wish to act in a manner which goes against our homeland, which is what you are asking us to do, by giving our census information to a foreign power. The article below states that there is no external connection, however there is an external connection due to the fact that Lockheed Martin is a U.S. company, heavily involved in the military industry, which is causing untold deaths around the world. We do not promote war, aggression or the proliferation of arms, we stand for peace. At least the Canadian people stand for peace, the question is do our political leaders who are elected to represent us, also stand for peace?

We are aware that NAFTA is behind the decision to continue to pursue this contract, and if that is the motiviation, then we ask that NAFTA be dissolved. NAFTA has proven to serve the U.S.A. and not Canadian interests on many fronts. It is time for our government to stand up for Canadians. We reject this decision to sell out our census information for 43 million dollars to a foreign power, which risks not only our private information falling into the wrong hands, but also supports this companies military agenda. I look forward to your response.

    Yours truly

That's a good way to undermine your minority stance in your city. Good job. Way to go. Less funding to determine causes of racial issues due to you not being represented in your census. Smart. Way smart.

Here is a "updated" copy of the letter, I encourage others to speak out today!

    Dear Prime Minister Martin,

Some of the people of Canada who are not knowlegeable about what the census data is used for have spoken out to reject this the next census because a Canadian company (Lockheed Martin Canada) is involved. They do not appreciate all of our money funding a Canadian company, nor do they wish to be counted themselves. They believe that the information gathered by STC will be used to not build roads, fund healthcare or expand education where needed. The article below states that there is no external connection, however, they can't read and, therefore, need to be spoon fed on the issue of data collection and use. Please continue to inform the people that this data is collected by Canadians for Canadians and that boycotting the census only hurts them and their communities (AKA "don't bitch to us when your community is not properly funded").

They are unaware if NAFTA is behind the decision to continue to pursue this contract. Please inform them asap. NAFTA has proven to serve the Mexicans and not Canadian interests on many fronts. They reject this decision to sell out our census information for 43 million dollars to a Canadian company, considering the 2001 government run census cost only 300 million. Those fscktards in Ottawa really screwed up on that one, eh?! It is high time for our government to stand up for Canadians and count them correctly. Our future depends on it.

I look forward to your response.

    Yours truly,

Mexico had the balls to tell the US to take a flying leap when it came to oil.

Canada did not do that, so we are on the hook for ALL of our oil, and we will not benefit from the profits.

Keep boycotting the cencus and see if they even notice.

Let us never forget that Lockheed Martin is probably one of the manufacturers of depleted uranium for the purpose of using up the stores of the results of their nuclear reactors, and therefore are simply getting rid of a dangerous product by spraying it all over Iraq and other countries.

This is recycling on a massive scale, with untold horrific results.

The deaths and the deformities from this method of ammo is disgraceful, and really doesn't surprise me since it is the US that is promoting the use of these types of weapons.

I used to think the US were the good guys.

Too many hollywood movies, I guess. Talk about propaganda !!

AC you have outdone yourself, the highlight of disillusioned, just because a company uses the name Canada at the end of their name, doesn't make them Canadian. There interests are not our interest. Nobody doubts the importance of census, in fact it is the importance of the information that is so critical in keeping it safe! Perhaps you fail to realize that the U.S. is a foreign power! I get the sense that some people in Canada, consider the U.S. to be part of Canada, if not some form of government already! They are not. Canada is a sovereign nation, and completely capable of funding and hiring a Canadian company that isn't involved with the manufacturing and distribution of military components that are killing innocent people the world over!

To simplify this matter to the fact that a census is necessary is to overlook the key fact, the Patriot Act has incredible powers to invade our security and they are not afraid to use it through their subsidiary companies. Wake up if you are a Canadian, but truly your post doesn't show any indication of patriotism.

Not only should we all boycott the census, but there has to be a way to organize a country wide general strike to protest the very things dear to our hearts like scrapping NAFTA,strengthening public health care, universal access to higher education, stopping the great lakes water grab, missile defense, halting privatization of essential services, and Canadianization of our resource and industrial base.

Yah! Where is Canada's Hugo Chavez? We need someone to rally the nation and say enough is enough - we are Canadians damn it - not Americans!
