U.S. Recalls Record 65 Million Kg Of Beef

Posted on Monday, February 18 at 10:55 by Wayne Coady
The recall was ordered because the plant violated rules barring the slaughter of "downer" cattle in almost all cases as a precaution against Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as mad-cow disease. 'Downer' refers to cattle unable to walk. http://english.vietnamnet.vn/international/2008/02/769167/

Our health will always take a backseat to profits which is why the libertarian idea of a so-called 'free market system' with little to no government controls is an insane idea destined for catastrophic failure. Now I have to wonder who will ultimately be paying for this recall? I also have to wonder if the people responsible will go to prison over endangering our health, or will the 'corporation' just be given a slap on the imaginary wrist instead?
