All of you at Vive please watch the video webcast of Helen Caldicott, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, and nuclear activist of 30 years at the following http://www.workingtv.com/helencaldicott.html then fan out and spread the word. No one anywhere should miss what she has to say. Hope to see lots of comments from all of you out there. It would be nice if Vive would devote a section to Helen.

Dr Caldicott is amazing and I've been a fan since watching a documentary about her. Thanks for pointing out this resource.

Thank you for the suggestion about giving her a section. Unfortunately, our sections are generally reserved for people who write regularly for the site and/or who we can post regular materials about--plus generally the people we give sections to are Canadian nationalists. But I am more than willing to post more materials on Dr Caldicott at any time in our Peace section or anywhere else on the site where it's applicable. But we certainly do need to give a section or two to women! I'm open to any other suggestions or applications.

It is sad she has to come back out to fight all the same things all over again.

This woman is truly amazing, the first time I saw a video of hers was about 30 years ago, I think. It scared me to death, but after a few years of hearing 'na that would never happen', I forgot about the threat to humanity.

It all comes back to me now, and so I'm back to 'Wow, what are we nuts!'

I liked Caldicott's thing, but I liked Parenti's more. Is it just me or do many 'progressive' Americans follow what's going on in Canada much more than the Bush supporters. Jeanene Garofalo was on counterSpin once & she wanted to make sure that Alberta is our version of Texas because that's what she had heard. Mike Moore, Noam Chomsky, Parenti in his talk on that link mentioned BC politics, etc etc. Maybe it's just that they think they should probably learn a bit about what goes on locally when they go somewhere.

I added a page to my personal website that has all of Helen's speeches through workingtv.com. I must say the people behind workingtv.com are just amazing. They give such good online content. They also allow me to use allot of that content for my site. I'm thankful for that.

I think what really must happen in all this is for all the movements to get connected. There are so many groups and organizations fighting the same thing. Just this week I've signed petitions at ceasefire, votenowar, oxfam, and signed a pledge to Stand for Peace and Justice at www.zmag.org. I voted for the next American presidend at www.georgebush.ca. I've written a letter to BC's Privacy Commissioner - David Loukidelis to tell him not to privatize the administration of Medicare Pharmacare payroll etc etc to American multination Corporations at the end of August. If we're going to mobilize millions of people throughout Canada and the USA we've got to be big and loud in such a way as to make it impossible for the media to ignore. I even sent my extremly right wing boss Helen's webcast site address. I wrote to PBS Newshour asking them to arrange a debate between Helen Caldicott and anyone from the Bush Admistration. I wrote a letter to Paul Martin told him that if he could debate on prime time national television with Helen Caldicott and get her to support his plan to sign on to Missile Defense then I would rest a lot easier. But the thing is millions have to engage in activism for it to have any effect.

<p>Gina, <p>Welcome To Vive! -- In case I haven't personally officially welcomed you :-) <p>re: your post above <p>I 100% agree with you. I've said it before that we have too many groups with the same goals but using all different ways to get the message out. Why don't they join forces and work as a team? I've always wondered this myself. <p>Then on the other hand I also think that each group will attract to one individual while the other may not. So maybe the diversity in these progressive groups is a positive thing. <p>Kevin<br> <a href="http://www.kevingagnon.ca/">www.kevingagnon.ca</a> <br><br><p>---<br>"Love actually, is all around us" --From the movie Love Actually.

There are two ways to look at that, consolidated efforts would represent one voice, so it would be fairly easy for politicians to say to the press, oh that's just that group over there; but if several groups start a bombardment it may be seen as people from so many backgrounds and areas, we better pay attention.

Not sure about this one, or which way would be more effective.

Thanks for the welcome. Perhaps its not a good Idea to form one big group under one name for the reasons you mentioned but I think it is imperative that we all get connected some how through an interlinking apparatus. The sheer number of issues creates volumes of data and not everyone has the time (or inclination)to wade through them all, and everyone needs to know before major change can happen. One thing that I think could be effective for instance is innundating media outlets with letters demading debates on globalization, Star Wars, etc and demanding that certain people be included in the debate in order that there are opposing views. If we were all connected it would be simple to mobilize all the activists to let them know enquiring minds want to know and aren't going to stop asking. I once wrote a letter to CBC because I was unhappy that they were not going to give equal airtime to all the parties during the election - I had hoped that some time would be given to the Canadian Action Party. Their reply to me was rather abrupt and they told me that they always tried to give the most unbiased coverage that they could but basically the weight of public opinion determined election programming. They included a pdf of their entire programming policy. In the documentary "Helen's War" Helen wrote a letter to the Pope asking him to go to Bagdad and remain there until the threat of an American invasion was over believing there was no way they would bomb while the Pope was there. When the Vatican responded that it was not their problem email's from outraged people crashed the Vatican website. So perhaps we need a web movement willing to draft letters/petitions and coordinate between activist groups email bombardments to the Media. Just a thought.
