Oh Dear!

KANANASKIS, Alberta – Make that a big Canadian, "Oh dear." These nice Canadians, whom George W. Bush once managed to triumphantly identify as "our most important neighbors to the north" are famous for their reticence. Canada, Land of the Understatement. I once proposed their national motto should be: "Now, Let's Not Get Excited." Not that I would ever generalize. I attribute their commendable phlegm to being too cold to waste much energy, and also to regular ingestion of oatmeal. http://www.alternet.org/columnists/story/19509/

Another one !! Are there really that many bushites out there ? WHY ? What has he done for America ????

    "Now, Let's Not Get Excited."

Interesting that she states that we shouldn't get excited. I think she ended up on the wrong website. Thanks for the link, I just may send her a little note.

Am I missing something here ? The only "phlegm" I can hear is from the "loose lips" that wrote this article.

    Texas. Figures !

    Indeed, Jim.

Did you read the article, Jim? She's being to some extent facetious.

    She states in the article:

Of the many stupid things our country has done lately, alienating the best neighbor any country ever had ranks fairly high on the All Time Stupid list.

She no 'Bushite' by any means.

That's just the way she writes...kind of an exagerrated Texas drawl. Ivins is certainly no Bushite, has been critical of him at least since he was Governor Bush. She's also not anti-Canadian.

You have to read a fair bit of her stuff to figure out exactly what she's saying though, and this article is way less clear than most of her work.

Don't mind me, I have this knee that jerks sometimes.

I don't always see the point when the writer is talking in circles.

(Or maybe I'm going in circles, eh ?)

Don't worry, Jim...Ivins can be a little unclear sometimes. If you ever get a chance, listen to an interview with her...very cool.

I enjoy her work most of the time over at smirkingchimp.com when it appears, but I agree, this is not her best piece to say least.

She never does answer why so many Americans to the bewilderment of us Canadians, would vote for Bush. That is her main contention.

Well yes but, don't you think some Americans might wonder why we vote the way we do???

This was typical tongue-in-cheek Molly Ivins -- wonderful! Lucky Canada..."it's like having the Simpsons for next-door neighbors".

If there are any questions, see us after we re-elect this nincompoop (du-oh!)

I often wonder why Canadians vote the way they do. ;-)

I don't think there are many Americans who even know how we vote, as all in all I would agree with Ivins' assessment that Americans have next to no interest in the world.
