The Chronic Problem Of Declining Health Care In The U.S.

Posted on Tuesday, September 21 at 08:36 by randyvo
"Although unemployment has increased and the labor market has shrunk over this period, the loss of jobs cannot explain all of the decline in employer health care coverage. Jobholders also experienced a drop in coverage from 58.9% to 56.4%, a change of 2.5 percentage points. This decline may be the result of a couple of trends: the slack in the labor market that has weakened workers' bargaining power or steep increases in health care costs that are being passed to employers and employees in the form of higher premiums and lower take-up rates." Yes, another reason why privatization of health care in Canada must be stopped! And the recent health 'summit' with the PM and the Premiers was a farce. Nothing was done to stop privatization. NAFTA, the real enemy of health care, was not even mentioned by the PM, the premiers, or even the media! And this side deal with Quebec only gives idiots like Ralph Klein the green light to do what he wants. The Romanow Report clearly stated that Canadians wanted the federal government to take more control over Canada wide public health care. But this is yet more 'Balkanization.'

"Employer-provided health coverage" - the article is very specific. It even mentions that more children are now getting gov't provided health coverage due to policy changes. So it's a bit far-fetched to assume the entire US health system is failing based on this article.
Considering another article came out today showing that US heart attack victims live longer than Canadian heart attack victims, perhaps we have a few things to learn from the Americans.

Please! The only people who get good treatment for heart problems in the USA are those who can afford it! 45 million without health insurance! Another 100 million who are 'undercovered.' Yeah, what we can learn from the US system is, profits before people KILLS!

good point - how is it that 45 million uninsured Americans have faster access to better health care than any Canadian?

I agree. Why would anyone want to waste money on preventative healthcare when you know that those without health insurance will only go to the emergency room AFTER they have become seriously ill...

or better yet, they just go straight to the morgue!
