Maitham Alzehrani, 33, of Windsor, was named in the indictment as a person directing the smuggling, and faces charges in both countries. Three others also face charges in both countries.
There are 16 people charged in the U.S. They are from Detroit, New York, Albion and Vicksburg, Mich. and Rockford, Ill.
Authorities say that when they complete their arrests, 23 individuals will be charged.
The arrests mark the culmination of a two-year investigation into human trafficking that saw more than 100 people arrested while attempting to cross the border.

It did not say what type of people these migrants were: Were they women? Were they prostitutes or sex slaves?
I find it strange that somebody can be charged in Canada for "conspiring to violate US immigration laws". To my knowledge, Canada is a sovereign nation. Since when do US laws apply in Canada?
