Conservative Regulatory Framework Sets Stage For Kyoto Withdrawal

Posted on Saturday, April 28 at 13:56 by JimmyD
Based on this plan, Canada will be in violation of international law and will stand as the only nation, of more than 160 countries around the world that have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol, to have reneged on its commitments. “In addition to the weak and slippery targets, what I’m really concerned about is that this plan may foreshadow the Harper government’s intention to formally commence withdrawal from the Kyoto process in 2008,” added Ms. May. “After all, if they don’t withdraw, then huge penalties will come into effect.” 2008 is the first year within the Kyoto agreement in which formal withdrawal is allowed. “Withdrawing from Kyoto would put Canada in the pariah corner,” added Ms. May. “How ironic that this may happen at the same time as the world expects the US to join the process.” Since the release of the original ineffective and damaging piece of legislation known as the Clean Air Act last fall, the Conservative government has wasted taxpayers’ dollars in a futile attempt to scare and mislead Canadians. Last week, Minister Baird presented a rigged economic analysis on the costs of implementing Kyoto to a Senate committee. In an obvious attempt to avoid putting forth any genuine effort to meet our legally binding international commitments under Kyoto, Minister Baird made the erroneous claim that meeting Kyoto targets would plunge Canada into severe recession. That taxpayers dollars’ were spent in this fashion is outrageous and irresponsible. http://www.greenparty.ca/en/releases/26.04.2007 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on April 30, 2007]

Members of Parliament, who voted to ratify the Kyoto Protocol in 2002, abdicated their obligation, before taking their seats, to swear that they would be faithful and bear true allegiance to the King or Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. They swore, or affirmed, that they would be faithful and bear true allegiance to Elizabeth II.

Elizabeth II is not Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, contrary to the requirement in this Fifth Schedule. According to the British North America Act, 1867, the provinces of Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick expressed their desire to be federally united into one Dominion under the Crown of the “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland", not the Crown of the “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.

This calls into question the legality of the supposed ratification of the Kyoto Protocol in 2002.

The Kyoto Protocol is already causing economic problems. As one example, if the money, time and effort spent as a result of the Kyoto Protocol was instead redirected into increasing the gasoline supply, the price of gasoline pe litre would be lower.

Carbon dioxide released by man near ground level is heavier than air and sinks in air relatively quickly rather than rising up to the upper atmosphere to become a so-called greenhouse gas in the upper atmosphere. While sinking, it stratifies from air. After sinking and stratifying, it tends to remain close to the ground and may find its way down to low-lying water bodies or down to ocean level where it can readily mix and react with water to form weak carbonic acid. Carbon dioxide is also removed immediately from the lower atmosphere by rainfall.

Replacing most present-day air travel with earth surface travel would have a measurable effect on reducing carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere, but may do little to reduce the overall greenhouse effect because natural water vapour is by far the most significant greenhouse gas.

"The IPCC has always overstated the importance of carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas and under-estimated the importance of water vapour", according to Warwick Hughes here.

The Green Party must have been out having cocktails when Harper had made it clear the first time, that he was not going to conform to the Kyoto agreement. Someone whispered in Harpers ear and informed him that this was the latest bandwagon for voters. Consequently he gave rebates on cars and banned light bulbs. He never did commit to Kyoto and was certain oil companies would back him. The next political parade will be in the back of a pickup truck down the streets of Calgary. The Green Party will have to shovel the BS and be happy with that. Perhaps Harper feels the increase of fuel costs is good enough.
