Conservative candidate fails to show for debate

CALGARY (CBC) - The Conservative party didn't send candidates to a debate hosted by the city's ethnic community, organizers say.

Eleven candidates running for five other parties – including Liberals, NDP, Green, Marxist- Leninists and Communists – attended the Sunday forum, designed to discuss issues of concern to new Canadians.

Organizer Dow Luu, with the Ethno-Cultural Council, said Conservative candidates turned down the invitation, saying they were going to be out of town or had scheduling conflicts.

The party offered to send a representative who wasn't a candidate, but Luu said the debate was for those running to hold office.

They also didn't bother to show up for the great canadian job interview. Way to rally the youth harper.

Well I really wonder what this message is saying,
do they not care what new Canadians think, or do they just
figure they've got the vote already?

How about the candidate in Saskatchewan, when asked for an interview with CPAC, said right on TV when CPAC finally caught up to him that "do you vote in this riding, and if not, I have more important things to do."

That is my recollection of what he said.

Arrogance ? Something to hide ?

I believe his name is Dellacourt (I hope I spelled that correctly), and he is in the area where David Orchard lives and fights on.

This candidate, by saying he was not available for a national interview on CPAC sounds like he's been coached to not talk to the national media, just the local media.

What is harper worried about ?

I hope harper's party gets 20% of the vote, so he can go live in the US, the place he admires so much !

Our local (Okanagan North), incumbent Conservative candidate also opted out of our local a.c.m....he had a prior engagement that involved black ties and champagne, infinitely more fun no doubt, but talk about taking constituents for granted! Then again, my mother always told us, if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all...

Also, MuchVote (MuchMusic) sent out 20 youthful questions to all the parties, some serious, some not so much--ie. boxers or briefs? All but Martin, Harper and Duceppe responded. Their lack of concern over drawing the youth vote is short-sighted to say the least.

    Curious isn't it ?

Perhaps the parties are counting on the youth to NOT vote, so they don't have to address their concerns.

    Surprise them, folks !

Every politician loves a surprise !

    Right ?

For a country that has a large ethnic population which is going to grow even larger it is both stupid and insulting for a politican not to take notice.
