Posted on Wednesday, September 06 at 12:47 by 4Canada
Eight months into his tenure as Prime Minister, and now, as the fall political season is grinding into gear after the Labour Day weekend, it is possible to identify some of the defining characteristics of Harper's leadership style — beyond the spare descriptions of "bold" or "decisive" management. Here are some other techniques from the Harper playbook, which may prove a useful guide to understanding his public strategies in the weeks and months ahead: Declare victory, even if the problem isn't solved. http://tinyurl.com/fflsc [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on September 7, 2006]

I hope Stephen maintains his stellar communication skills right up till 5 minutes after the polls close and he see just how steep his dive from PM into oblivion is.

    Hear that tick-tock, Stephen?

That's the sound of borrowed time slipping away...

Last night I was listening to MP Chuck Strahl talking about PM Steve, and he confirmed that he is a total one-way controller. According to Strahl, PM Steve doesn't even want to listen to reasoning or analysis from his closest advisors - just stick to the letter laid down by PM Steve and do it.

It would be much easier if this were a dictatorship - as long as he were the dictator.

Oh well, he got the dictator part down, not he just has to change a few more little things and he has his dictatorship too.

If that is really how he runs his caucus, it will be quite amazing if he can keep it together and running smoothly in the long run. Cretien couldn't...

The guy was trying to explain the Afghanistan mission? Too bad I missed that one - it must have been a riot.

Arrogance and complete disregard for your citizens usually signals the downfall for a politician (Nixon, Mulroney). What is the purpose of a politician if he continuously refuses to clearly state his case and open himself up to debate? You can run, but you can't hide.
