The Philippines will immediately withdraw its small peacekeeping force from Iraq, meeting the demands of Iraqi insurgents holding a Filipino man hostage.
"The Foreign Affairs Ministry is coordinating the pullout of the humanitarian contingent with the Ministry of National Defense," said a government statement.
"As of today, our headcount is down from 51 to 43."
Earlier, the government had said it wouldn't cave to the demands of Khaled Bin Al-Walid Squadrons, which is holding truck driver Angelo dela Cruz.

While it may send the wrong message to some circles, it is still the right thing to do under the circumstances.
For the anon author above - polls show that MOST Iraqis (not only those activily fighting) don't want the foreign forces there in their country any longer than neccessary.
