_______________________________ Concerned about participation in missile defence First phase of `shield' program set for September TIM HARPER WASHINGTON BUREAU WASHINGTON—The Bush administration, conceding a minority government could cloud the future of Canadian participation in continental missile defence, is watching next week's election with "keen interest,'' officials said yesterday. A State Department official, who asked not to be named, said the run-up to Monday's poll is being more closely scrutinized in the U.S. capital than recent Canadian votes because the outcome is in doubt and a minority is looming. http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1088028613905&call_pageid=970599109774&col=Columnist1053514084392

Missile defense of North America will happen regardless of wether or not Canadians want to be consulted or have any part of it at all. We should take part in our own defence but have always taken comfort under the American wing instead. Canadians care so little for our own sovereignty that we don't even monitor our own territory let alone have any means to defend it - that's why we're such easy prey for people/drugs/weapons/cigarette smuggling, foreign vessels can dump crap in our waters, the Danish Navy can claim our islands, foreign fishers come and go as they please, anyone is allowed into the country and let loose to do as they please... It's pathetic. It seems that Canada is convenient to most Canadians, that's the extent of it and they don't want to take any responsibility for Canada or helping anyone else in the world...

Anon, of the harper bunch of fools, are you still here ??

    Read this:

"The Bush administration in general would be more comfortable with a Harper government, for practical and ideological reasons," Weaver said. (This is from the article above)
    **************

    That's enough for me.

When Bush gets tossed out on his religious zealot fanny, I will be clapping as hard as I can.

I want them to hear me in Washington.

As Canadians we are proud that we are not helping the usa with there missile defense plans for north america. The Us needs to step back and let other countries be independant and have control over there own cultures and democraties. The bush administration is the most ridicul gouvernement to come to power in the Us history. Canada is a country of peace and Canadians will do what it takes so that we Never follow in the footsteps of our "Big Brother". People everywere half to realize that we need to change our priorities. We need to change our ways before we ruin everything for the future and destroy the planet. The Us is the number One cause of cahos.
We, as Canadian are proud of what we stand for an embrasse our rights and democraTIES and we do not whant be have anything to do with the disfontional, evil united states GOUVERNEMENT. They sHould stop triyng to tell every other country what to do and start taking a good look at themselves. The United states have the biggest crime rate in north america and the only reason why there in the middle east is because all the people in the bush administration own shares in the fossile fuel industry. It all about CASH. In Canada , it's all about people and creating a better world.

To the first anon saying Canadians don't care enough to protect our own borders, I would totally disagree, we do care and we actually believed that our government was handling our borders, unfortunately we have been too trusting...and that must stop! Just because our government has failed us on several fronts doesn't mean we should jump on board the U.S. ship; we need to change what is wrong within our borders ourselves.
