Automatic HTML Creator

I would like to suggest an automatic HTML creator for articles and comments. If you visit canadiandemocraticmovement.ca they have that option there. As soon as you click on the comment area where you would type your message, it switches to do automatic HTML of your message. This would be nice to see on vivelecanada.ca. It help's to be able to come here to comment and submit articles faster. Faster means more time to spend doing more here at vive ;-) Kevin

This comes down to a lack of time on my part to code one up. I think something similar exists for geeklog, but it's IE only and thus not useful for our cross-platform purposes. The best thing would be for someone with free time to get the code from CDM and create a patch for geeklog that I can apply. Show me the code, and I will put it in. ;)

It is a free script we are using - name is escaping me but the web crew will know. And yes it only works in IE well - it degrades nicely but does not work well or not at all in Mozilla type clients.

sadly, people complain loudly when we're not 100% compatible with other browsers, and I don't really blame them. Thanks for that though, I'm pretty sure I've found that script previously.

HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) is what web browsers speak. It lets you put links to other HTML pages or images, makes your text <b>bold</b>, gives you <p> page breaks, tables etc.<p> There is a standard way to 'render' (translate HTML from text to pretty pictures) HTML, and then there is the way Internet Exploder does it. Looking at a site designed only for IE will cause problems in other browsers like Opera, or Mozilla/Netscape. Looking at a site, such as Vive, which is done in standard HTML, will look the same on all browsers.<p> When you create a comment, you'll see "Allowed HTML Tags:" just below "Post Mode". If you choose "HTML Formatted", then you can use any of those tags to format your message. If you use "Plain Old Text", you can't post links etc.<p> This code Jesse wants to insert will take the "HTTP://www.somesite.ca " and automagically turn it into a link, without the user having to know HTML - but it only works if the user is running Internet Exploder.<p><p>---<br>"History does not repeat itself, but it does rhyme" Mark Twain <br />
