White Power At The Fraser Institute

Posted on Wednesday, October 12 at 15:11 by eugene
This is exactly what the big construction companies in Alberta and B.C. are asking for in order to make up for their myth of a skilled labour shortage. These so called non union Merit Shop companies want to bring in immigrant labour on temporary visa's and then return them home after finishing their construction projects in the Alberta Tar Sands. It is union busting by any other name. The underlying premise is racist just like that espoused by the radical right wing white power groups. "It is union busting by any other name."

Bingo! Someone else sees it! The Fraser Institute has a long and proud history of anti-unionism. This is a great way for them to frame the debate in another way. What I would like to know is this - are there going to be wage guarantees etc? Or are we going to see globalization brought to our domestic industries by a twisted method? Big business in the age of WalMart are infamous for driving wages to the bottom dollar. What better way to bust unions and drive wages for Canadians down than to import skilled only labour on temp visas?

I am always surprised by the effect anything written by the Fraser Institute has on all of us. This "institute" is what, forty old white guys who purchase opinions from old washed up universtity professors that write what they are told to write.

I think the only newspapers that even report their stuff are the two Calgary rags and some interior BC community newspapers.

"This 'institute' is what, forty old white guys who purchase opinions from old washed up universtity professors that write what they are told to write."

Why the racism Kevan Taylor? Please keep the discussion to a respectable level.

I recommend everyone follow the link and read the article. It is just a blog with no real content. It relies on the usual and predictable tactic of name-calling. Those who cannot debate the issue usually follow this recourse. The first person to shout racism is the one who lost the debate.

However it is possessed of some salient points. Chief among them is the opposition to use immigrants as a weapon against unions. There seems to be a consensus on this issue and it’s a good thing our current immigration policy doesn’t threaten unions. Right?

I happen to agree with the blog writer in his attack against the Fraser Institute. Why should we allow the Fraser Institute to influence a policy that would, in effect, displace Canadians from jobs that they can be trained for and cannot be deported from? Is this not the reasonable and most compassionate approach to the solution? Do we not care about our fellow countrymen?

The blog writer also dismisses the claim that there is a job shortage. I agree. There are shortages in some areas but not in most. And unemployed and underemployed Canadians can be trained to fill these shortages.

Sorry Fraser Institute but we aren’t buying it. We refuse to harm fellow Canadians by exploiting the desperation and/or greed of immigrants to keep wages and salaries down and benefits nil. We refuse to support a policy that, in effect, plunders the third world of its human resources. We already steal their oil, diamonds, and crops. We will not steal/bribe their people away too. We believe that the economic needs of Canadians must come first if we are to combat declining birth rates, the wage gap, and lowering standards of living. It is we, Canadians, who will decide who will enter the country and who will not and not a bunch of unelected policy-making wannabes at the Fraser Institute. Real Canadians like immigration lawyers, and social workers, and immigration consultants, and electioneering politicians, and ethnic community leaders, and real estate developers, and business leaders who need cheap labour to stay competitive, and those who like to eat Thai on Tuesdays, Chinese on Wednesdays, and Indian on Thursdays. These are the real Canadians and they are the majority. But not you Fraser Insitute. No Siree Bob. You represent a special interest group with a social agenda unlike the real Canadians. Am I right everybody?

Let’s fight against any policy that would harm Canadian lives and alter society against the majority of Canadians’ wishes. So who’s with me? I SAID WHO’S WITH ME?

ROy Whyte, can't you see that immigration is part of globalization as well?

As to Eugene, that title is sensationalist bullshit.
