Anti-Free-Trade Protesters In Halifax Blame Media For Violence

Posted on Sunday, June 17 at 06:17 by whelan costen
Police used pepper spray and electric stun guns to try and subdue the protesters. That scene, said protest organizer Pierre Blais, was exactly what reporters were looking for. "Violent or so-called violent disruptive protest and property damage does attract media a lot more than marches or just the Atlantica deal itself," Blais, a member of the Anti-Capitalist Coalition, told a news conference. They have a point, up to a point. However, as I mentioned elsewhere, the Globe and Mail had a good article that wasn't about the protest but about what went on inside. But once again it was the 'confrontational' debate between two opposing viewpoints. Media still hasn't learned to actually look at legisltion or recommendations in an objective way to make it palatable. Part of that is the nature of society. People like 'drama'. Part of the reason they like drama is because in this country politics is simply another form of entertainment. There is little people can actually DO.

So to make it intellectually interesting, there is the need to focus on what makes people interested. They are also partly right, as an anti abortion group had a 7000 person protest at parliament which wasn't covered on the CBC national news. I virtually never see protests covered, and essentially native groups make the same complaint, so obviously there is something to that.

However, 'blame' goes to a person committing an act. Nobody 'blames' media if they don't cover native protests, they blame either the natives or the government. The media has a part to play, and certainly is far from exemplary, but to blame them because you threw a rock is a bit much. They talk about media attention, but without that violence, whose to say there wouldn't have been stories interviewing peaceful protestors? We don't know that because these guys provided a flashpoint which attracts the media.

The "media" is like the three cups in a game of shuffle.

Follow the cup, and guess which one has the little red ball under it.

Meanwhile, some thug name Stephen is jamming a corporate owned d*ck up your butt, but you don't notice because you're after the little red ball.

That's how it works folks, get use to it.

Oh I think everybody here notices it. Part of the problem is all the sickies that like the feel of it:)

Without prejudice and with all due respect
You speak as if you have some “great” insight you wish to share when the fact of the matter is you don’t know shit from a goose!
Like Carlin states in his clip
They OWN you , they have you by the Balls!

That there are agitators present at these rallies and that there are also agent provocateurs cannot be denied There are several “Blames” and yes the media DOES get deserved blame (as seen on these pages) for their lack of coverage on many issues
Where the fuck do you think the expression ‘Whores of the press’ comes from?
    From accolades?

Your action on the anti-Semitic issue more than identified your lack of critical thinking capabilities and any thing else you provide here needs to be seen through the same lense
