U.S Patriot Act Worries B.C. Privacy Commissioner

B.C.'s Privacy Commissioner is asking the provincial government for extra money to examine the ability of U.S. authorities to access confidential information in Canada

The U.S. Patriot Act allows American law enforcement agencies to access private information held by U.S. companies. That could include include information held by Canadian subsidiaries of U.S. companies.

    It is clear to me that we should move quickly to stop paranoid American agencies from accessing any information on Canadians other than through acceptable channels and only on a need to know basis.
    I have no desire to be incarcerated without charge and with no recourse based on some sifting of my personal history through digital algorithms designed and run by people who see anyone that disaggrees with them as "The Enemy".
    Any country that would conduct itself in the current manner of America cannot be trusted to draw reasonable conclusions on any subject and their ability to reach into my life must be curbed! Just think of Gitmo, Iraq, or a legacy of interference stretching back decades and you will get my point.
