Paper Says Closer Trade, Defence Ties With U.S. Key To Greater Clout

"Again, we have much more to gain from expanding our trade with the United States than we do from elusive multilateral trade agreements or deals with minor partners," write Harris and Manning. The paper, titled International Leadership by a Canada Strong and Free, will be released by the Fraser Institute and is the latest installment in a series of papers that the two prominent Conservatives have written in the last two years. The push for an even closer relationship with the U.S. comes about 20 years after former Progressive Conservative prime minister Brian Mulroney won a second majority victory in 1988 after a divisive election campaign focused on a new trade agreement with the country's larger neighbour. The paper's proposals, which are based on traditional conservative principles, come at a time when the current Conservative government is perceived to be floundering a bit on the international stage. During the past two weeks, the Harper cabinet has been under siege as it scrambled to explain its policy on monitoring the treatment of detainees following allegations of mistreatment at the hands of Afghan officials. http://www.canada.com:80/topics/news/national/story.html?id=941ff32b-a2c7-4abd-88fa-7c171318ddd2&k=46590 [Proofreader's note: this article was edited for spelling and typos on May 9, 2007]

Prosparity garunteed by signing un-level playing field contracts and trade agreements with the U.S.A. that undermine and subordinate Canadian's values, rights, freedoms as well as Canada's sovereignty.

As the lumber agreement, the Mad Cow issue, NAFTA and our stance on the Iraq war and Ballistic missile treaty show that Canada can not exercise its democratic rights and move freely without fear because it has not gotten approval from and risking offending our neighbor / friend / family to the south of us. Every agreeement we sign with the U.S.A. Canada's position is subordinated along with our rights and liberties. Why can't Canadians and Canadian Business expect a level playing field receiving equally the same rights and protection in Business, Trade and Travel. Why can't Canadian Businesses expect and recieve the same treatment and rights as American Businesses do under NAFTA in Canada? Why shouldn't Canadian Businesses in the U.S.A. have the same access to State and Federal government funding? There is nothing Free in U.S. free trade agreements!

The U.S. informs its allies but does not consult them. What would be different with the Missile Shield Program? "We think it's in Canada's sovereign interest to be in the room to decide what's going to happen when there's an incoming missile," said Ambassador Paul Cellucci. Does anyone really think that with the speed that ICBM’s fly so slow that there is going to be a discussion over whether to shoot it down? I think not! We will be lucky to get a call even if we ever know about it. Let’s face it, the missile, no matter how you calculate it, if detected soon enough to intercept it will be intercepted over Canadian territory and the impact or fall out lands on Canada and the people of Canada. Yes but isn't that the point away that it does not land on Americans or American territory, Canda isn't a consideration.

And tying your little boat to the Titanic would have been a safe way of crossing the Atlantic. When the Gringo Empire implodes like the USSR, we will get dragged down with it.

I'd think it was better suited to be used as bird cage liner myself, but then again, budgies, canaries, and zebra finches learning neo-classical economics might get me in hot water with the local PETA chapter.

This stuff works really well for housetraining dogs; mine has no preference, he'll
pee on them all with equal amount of disinterest....
except he doesn't like the glossy stuff, too slippery and he gets his feet wet! I
feel the same way with this stuff, I hate the glossy b.s. cause underneath its still
    the same poop, just slipperier!

What does one expect to hear from SelloutGlobal? There is nothing American that they don't want for us.

So Frick and Frack have spoken. Why don't these two
creepy characters go live down south of the border and
take the entire Conservative Government with them.

What the hell went so wrong with this country? How can
you have these redneck hypocritical out of touch
jackasses attempting to create and implement policy?
People need to wake the up and send these spooks
    packing already.
